Fly free – Art Journal page with Rubber Dance

Hello, I am here today with a page from my art journal. For this page I used the Organic 4, Sketchy Leaves 6 and Wheels stencils and plenty of stamps: Carved Collection 6, Mix It Up 6, Butterflies and Moths, Doodle Flowers 2 and from A to Z.

I started by placing the leaves and using them as masks with salvaged patina Distress Oxide Ink. I placed them onto the page and brushed the ink over them to the page repeatedly. After that I continued the background pattern with the Wheels stencil and the same ink tone, blending them into each other. Next I took the Organic 4 stencil and continued adding the same ink thru the stencil onto the page.

After finishing the inking, I took the iced spruce Distress Oxide Ink and stamped with Mix It Up 6 stamp set hand writing stamp over the white leaf areas very freely. Then I outlined the leaves with a black pen. This made them pop out of the background and I love the look it creates to the page. After that I used the number stamp from the same stamp set with aged mahogany Distress Oxide Ink to randomly stamp numbers next to the leaf patterns.

After that I took the peacock feathers Distress Oxide Ink tone and stamped a leaf pattern with the Carved Collection 6 stamp onto the page from top towards the bottom. I added golden pigment details with Gansai Tambi watercolors to them. Then I took some previously made leaf and collage fodder (see videos here and here) and added those on top of the stamped leaves overlappingly.

I also decorated the page with some yellow toned butterflies. These were also previously made collage fodder (with Butterflies and Moths stamp set) from my gelli printing sessions. For the text I used black ink and the word free from the Mix It Up 6 stamp set. The word fly is stamped with the A to Z set.

For finishing touches I also added some light written text stamping in the salvaged patina tone next to the pink flowers. It´s just a hue, but it adds some detail to the otherwise blank area. I also added some golden droplets and Gloss Spray in the tone blushing here and there.

For more details, here is the start-to-finish video for you to watch:

I really enjoy playing with stencils, creating collage fodder and then combining all these bits and pieces together in a project.

Happy crafting,

Layered art journal page – Rubber Dance

Hello, today I have an art journal page share for you. For this page I used the Doodle Flowers 2, Butterflies and Moths, Mix It Up 5, Mix It Up 7, Carved Collection 6, Stitching Borders and Mix It Up 4 stamp sets as well as Dotted 1 and Mini Textures 1 stencils.

I started by wiping residue ink from the Dotted 1 stencil onto the background and pressing another layer of residue brown ink from the Mini Textures 1 stencil around the first pattern. Next I grabbed some Neocolor II crayons and applied various yellow and light pink tones to the page. After that I grabbed a selection of pink, green, brown and turquoise Distress Oxide Inks and used the various stamps to add details and layers to the background.

I also painted some circles onto the page and filled those with golden pigment dots. Next I added contrast with a black stamp ink by adding stamped stars and numbers as well as stitching. I then clustered a few collage fodder pieces together (leaves and butterfly) and adhered those on place. I also had a few “diy vintage labels” left over, so I adhered a few onto the page. For finishing touches I added two sentiment stickers and created black areas with an acrylic marker and detailed those with a white gel pen.

This was a really fun one to make! Have you tried this idea of freely adding plenty of layers and seeing where the page takes you?

“Note to self” Art Journal Page process – Rubber Dance

Hello, it´s my turn to share a project over at Rubber Dance blog today. I am up with an art journal page share. For this page I used the Ornament 1 and Mini Textures 1 stencils. For stamping I used Doodle Flowers 2, Collage Leaves 3 and A to Z stamp sets. I wanted to create an inspirational page and this is what I came up with:

My starting point was the inked Ornament 1 stencil which I sprayed with water mist and then pressed onto the journal page. Next I blended two tones of pink Distress Oxide Ink around the edges and white areas. After that I took the darker pink tone and stamped some leaf patterns onto the inked area, followed with light grey stamping.

I had a green toned collage paper ready and stamped with Collage Leaves 3 stamp set and black ink some leaves onto it. After that I fussy cut them and was ready to adhere them to my journal page. On top of the leaves I added a few Doodle Flowers 2 collage fodder images that I had previously made.

Then I decorated with leaves with golden pigment details. Next I stamped some inspirational words into the middle with the Collage Leaves 3 stamp set. For finishing touches I added a hand stamped title using the rest of my collage paper and the A to Z stamp set.

I also recorded a process video for you to watch – hope you enjoy!

Have fun creating!!

“Be You” Art Journal page and process video

Hello, I am sharing an art journal page with a process video today. For this page I used the Sketchy Leaves 5 and Leaves 2 stencils and Loose Florals 2024, Mix It Up 5, Mixed Sentiments 1 and Butterflies and Moths stamp sets.

I started by stenciling modeling paste onto the page thru the Sketchy Leaves 5 stencil. I then used Texture Gems clear paste with the Leaves 2 stencil. After the pastes were dry, I applied ocker and light green paint on top. After that I stamped with the Mix It Up 5 stamp over the stenciled areas very randomly. After that I added some Loose Florals 2024 stamped leaves and flowers to the background.

Then I took a heavy body paint in apricot and added highlights with it. Next I used my fingers and a baby wipe to apply some dark green paint for contrast. I also removed some of the paint from the stenciled areas to make them stand out more.

After applying the paint, I used golden pigments to add droplets to the darker areas. Finally, I created a cluster with stenciled and pasted fussy cut leaves and a Butterflies and Moths butterfly. For finishing touches I added some stamped words using the Mixed Sentiments 1 stamp set.

Here is the process video with all the steps:

I hope you enjoyed watching the video and got inspired! Do stop by the Rubber Dance store and purchase a product or two. These days with high taxes, every purchase goes towards keeping a small business alive!

“Hello Fall” Art journal page – Rubber Dance

Hello! It´s my turn to share another project created with Rubber Dance goodies over at their blog today. I am up with a fall themed art journal page process video step-by-step. I used one of my favorite stencils, the Leaves 2, for the background. More details were added with Autumn Leaves, Mix It Up 7, A to Z and Loose Florals 2024 stamp sets.

I started with the Leaves 2 stencil and Distress Inks in peeled paint, mustard seed, ripe persimmon and forest moss. I placed the stencil onto the page and started by adding the yellow ink tone. Then I took the other ink pads and brushed just tiny areas with them. I then flipped the stencil over and continued with the pattern (my page is bigger than the stencil) in the same way. After that I added some yellow to the background with a blending brush. Next I added stamped elements with the Mix It Up 7 stamp set.

Since it is a fall themed art journal page, I added some gold pigment with a water brush pen, too. Then I chose one of my gelli printed collage papers and wripped it into size. It is made using the Loose Florals 2024 stamp set on a gel plate (see the video here). After adhering the collage paper on place I took out some watercolor style stamped (see video here) Autumn Leaves and arranged them on top.

I also tuck a DIY vintage ticket (see video here) under the collage paper to create a cluster. On top of it all I added a Tim Holtz paper doll with dragonfly wings. I stamped the title with A to Z stamp set onto a paint residue paper and fussy cut the letters with scissors.

And here is the art journal page process video. Have fun watching!

I just love how the background turned out. I might just use that same idea on some cards!!
Happy creating,

Summer Dreams Art Journal page – Rubber Dance

Hello everyone! I am up over at the Rubber Dance blog today with this art journal page share. I used the Stacked Ovals stencil, the Carved Collection 6, the A to Z and the Mix It up 4 stamp sets for this journal page. I also incorporated collage fodder bits made with Doodle Flowers 2 stamp set and Sketchy Leaves 5 stencil.

Here is how I created the page:

I started with Stacked Ovals ad Distress Oxide Ink in picked raspberry. I inked the stencil with the ink pad and then misted it with water. After that I pressed the stencil onto the journal page. I repeated this step until the page was fully covered.

Then I took Distress Oxide Ink in antique linen and salvaged patina, placed the stencil on top of the previously created image and inked the empty areas with both inks. This created a very interesting background to start with.

After that I grabbed the Mix It Up 4 stamp set and the scallop border stamp and stamped the border along the center of the page. Next I used a black pen to outline the scallops and add a little contrast.

Then I stamped some stars with black ink onto the page, added a collage paper piece and various colors of yarn on top. Next I decorated the paper strip with collage fodder I had made using the Sketchy Leaves 5 stencil and Doodle Flowers 2 stamp set (see video here and here).

After that I took a piece of white cardstock and stamped letters with A to Z stamp set onto it. I then fussy cut the letters and adhered those to the journal as my title. I also sneaked a flower onto the paper (see the video how to make those here). I felt like the page needed some more structure, so I stamped the black line with a flower stemp stamp from the Carved Collection 6 stamp set and added a scallop border underneath (from the Mix It Up 4 set).

I am totally in love with the Stecked Ovals stencil – the backgroud was so much fun to make! I hope you give this idea a try.

Happy creating,
xx, Sanna

My soul is painted – Art journal page – Rubber Dance

Hello, it´s Sanna here today with a art journal process video. For this page I used the Stacked Ovals, Mini Marks 1 and Organic 2 stencils as well as Mix It Up 7, Round In Circles and Butterflies and Moths stamps.

I used plenty of Distress Oxide Inks on the background. First I inked the backround with “mustard seed”, then added “faded jeans” and “peacock feathers” thru the Stacked Ovals stencil. On top of that I applied some Marabu Metallic Liner thru the Mini Marks 1 stencil. I used the same stencil on a different area with Faber Castell Texture Gems media. When these layers were dry, I applied some “salvaged patina” with a blending tool onto the page.

Then I placed the Organic 2 stencil onto the page and applied “iced spruce” thru the stencil onto the background. After that I stamped some faces (Mix It Up 7 stamp set) with “abandoned coral” onto the background. Then using the same stamp set I added some black stamping on top. After that I added white Gloss Spray droplets all over the page.

I had some previously made gelli printed collage papers (made with Round in Circles stamp set) which I cut into circles and adhered them onto the page. Next to the circles, I adhered collage fodder made with Butterflies and Moths stamp set. I finished the page off with typewrite typed song lyrics.

I hope you liked watching the process and got inspired to create in your own journal. Happy crafting,

Art journal page with Distress Inks and Rubber Dance stamps & stencils

Hello everyone, here is a little share from when I was randomly playing in my art journal with recently made collage fodder pieces and Rubber Dance stamps and stencils.

I started with Distress Ink tones “ripe persimmon”, “picked raspberry”, “mustard seed” and “vintage photo”. I first applied the pink, yellow and orange tones with a misted gelli plate onto the background and created the random color areas. Next I pressed some “vintage photo” onto “Dotted 1” and “Marks 3” stencils, misted them and pressed the inked areas directly onto the paper. This created a hint of a pattern.

Next I used the “Pencil Marks 8” stamp set to create the oval shapes onto the page using black stamp ink. After that I grabbed some premade collage fodder pieces (leaves and butterflies) and adhered them to the page. After that I added some turquoise ink splatters (Dina Wakley Gloss Spray). For finishing touches I created a sentiment with stamped words (Mix a Sentiment 2023) and some stickers from my stash.

Here is the start-to-finish video:

I had a fun time playing in my art journal. Hope you enjoyed watching the process!

Happy crafting,

Spring Art Journal page with tinted modeling paste and stencils – Rubber Dance

Hello, it´s my turn to share a. project over at Rubber Dance blog again. Today I am sharing a page from my art journal that started from a mark making play and ended up being a bright spring themed page. I used the Dotted 1, Organic 4 and Marks 3 stencils and the Mix It Up 5 stamp set to create the page. I also added previously made collage fodder bits done with Doodle Flowers 2 and Butterflies and Moths stamp sets.

This is how my creating process went. I always have a journal close to me, when creating on other projects. That way I can wipe and add random layers to my journal with residue paints, inks and pastes. In the first photo you can see I added some residue pink paint, then some black mark making to the journal page. Next I mixed some modeling paste with neon pink and yellow paint and sky blue paint together and applied those onto the background thru the previously mentioned stencils. I love to tint my white modeling paste with acrylic paints to create different colors.

While the paste was drying, I took a pink tag and stamped some Distress Oxide Ink (kitsch flamingo) with one of the Mix It Up 5 stamp set stamps. Then I grabbed a small piece of residue gelli printed paper, stamped with the same set and black ink some images onto the piece and adhered it onto the tag. After that I arranged a cluster of leaves and flowers to the tag and cut off any residue along the edges.

After that I adhered the tag onto the journal page, created a sentiment with sticker and paper alphas and added some Gloss Spray splatters for finishing touches (Medieval).

Have you tried creating your own tinted modeling pastes? It´s a fun way to add some interest to any project (journal, wall art, card background). It also adds a nice texture and depth to a project. Wishing you a fun time playing with stencils and modeling paste!! If you missed how the fodder was done, you can watch the videos and the photo tutorial here, here and here.

Happy creating!

Stenciled Art Journal Page – Rubber Dance

Hello! It´s my turn today over at Rubber Dance blog and I am up with a heavily layered, stenciled art journal page share today. For this page I used the Dotted 1, Big Ovals, Cross It, Wheels, Stars 1 and Marks 2 stencils. There are also some details added with the Doodle Flowers 2 stamp set.

I started by applying heavy body paint in “olive” with a palette knife onto the background. On top of that I used a foam brush to dab “sand” and “apricot” tones thru Big Ovals and Dotted 1 stencils. After that I outlined some of the dabbed paint “circles” with a black pen. Next I took a piece of a old dictionary book and wripped and glued strips of paper onto the background.

Next I wiped some “aloe” tone with my fingers onto the wripped dictionary page pieces to blend them into the background. I then added a layer of “tangelo” with a palette knife onto the page. Next I took the Cross It stencil out and added some white paint thru it onto the orange areas for contrast.

After that I took a black with glimmer mist misted tag out and again dabbed the “lemon” paint onto the tag thru the Wheels stencil. After that I put some “lime” toned paint onto the palette knife and wiped some of it onto the tag. The next layer was done using “stoked” tone and the Marks 2 stencil. I then added the last bits of “turquoise” paint with a palette knife thru the Stars 1 stencil onto the tag.

I sprinkled some Gloss Spray in “turquoise” for interest onto the art journal page. I then glued the stenclied black tag onto the art journal page. After that I added a misted doilie for decoration and created a cluster of leaves with “Doodle Flowers 2″ leaves next to it. There is a video at the end of this post on how I created the leaves.

I finished the page with a paper doll by Tim Holtz and some black and white alphabet stickers. Here is the start-to-finish video for further information:

And this is the video on how I made the leaves fodder:

I hope I could inspire you today. Happy creating!
