Don´t force pieces – Art Journal page

Hello lovelies, time for another art journal page share! February was a month I created quite a few pages into my art journal. I just felt like creating a page every other day. And it felt good!!! Could be that all the things that happened to us/me in February made me create all those pages. Who knows…

I seem to create art journal pages to keep an emotional diary of some kind. Every page is combined to feelings I had been experiencing/going thru around that time. That is why I also always add a date to the page I create. And quotes, yes, they follow me around :). Again a very quote dominated page, that I created:

I didn´t use gesso on this page at all. I played with Glimmer Mists and used them like water colours and I love how this page turned out. It feels so me. The colours are very much me too. I think you could call this technique intuitive. I added colours, let them spread on their own and then added lines and patterns to emphasize the edges of various colours.

And I love this quote!!! Need to remind me over and over again that there are things we cannot force. Some things happen, others don´t, however hard we want them to happen. Such is life. What I don´t like, is my handwriting. I cannot seem to get it right, always looks a bit odd…but here, even the letters worked out great. Maybe the secret is to keep it simple. Maybe my handwriting is like this… I love brush lettering and calligraphy, but I would need to be patient and practice lots…which is not going to happen any day soon, so better be happy with what I got… *laughing*.

I think I am going to call my 2017 art journal the „Talking to myself“-book, as I always seem to end with some kind of wise words on color and media :-).

Wishing you all a lovely, creative day!!!
xxx, Sanna

Stenciled bookmark – STAMPlorations

Hello there everyone! It´s my turn today to share another mixed media step-by-step tutorial with you. I am very much looking forward to spring already and I have noticed that it shows in my recent work – mainly can be noticed in my color choices. And this project is no exception – lots and lots of happy spring colours peeking here and there. Hope you like it!

Here is what I created:

Take a piece of white plain cardstock (or a big manila tag). Cut into a tag form if you are using a piece of cardstock. Then spray with pink spray ink and let dry or use a heat tool to dry the surface.

Place the Flutterby ARTplorations stencil onto the misted, dry surface and take a palette knife and some Viva Decor Glitter Paste and apply the paste thru the stencil onto the tag with the palette knife. Since the paste is very „grainy“, make sure you wash the stencil after you have used it.

Remove the stencil carefully and let the paste air dry before moving over to the next step.

Take book themed paper bits and scraps, fussy cut them into right size and start adhering them onto the tag as you like. Add punched/die cut elements like butterflies to go with the background theme and decorate with ribbon, washi tape, brads, music notes and whatever you find suitable for the theme.

Take the Trendy Birds 2 stamps and a piece of old book paper and partially ink the sentiment stamp (only the word wings) and press the inked word into the paper. Fussy cut the word.

Next take the Trendy Feathers 2 stamp set and again only partially ink the stamp sentiment with the word „mind“ on it and press onto a piece of old book paper. Then fussy cut along the edges.

After that take small alpha stickers and build the quote „Books give wings to the mind“ with the partially stamped words and the alpha stickers. I always adhere the alpha stickers with paper glue to make sure they really stick to the surface and don´t come off later. Sometimes the adhesive bedind the alphas is not that strong on it´s own. Finally, add some white ink splatters for additional interest on top of all layers. If you don´t prefer splatters, just skip this step. That´s it. Here are some detail photos of the finished tag.

Hope you get inspired to play with glitter paste and stencils!!! Have fun!!!

Stenciled paste and paint mixed media tags – STAMPlorations

Hello everyone, it´s my turn today to share a little mixed media tutorial with you. I decided to create a set of two tags using toned modeling paste with stencils. Here is how my finished tags look like:

And this is how I created the tags:

1. Take a white tag and place it into a misting box and using yellow spray ink add a layer of yellow mist. Let air dry or use a heat tool to dry the surface.

2. Mix modeling paste and magenta and tangerine acrylic paint with a palette knife together.

3. Place the „Ethnic Organic Two“ stencil on top of the tag and start applying the toned paste thru the stencil onto the tag. Start with orange and continue with the pink tone.

4. Carefully lift the stencil from the tag and take a second white tag and place the wet paint surfaced tag onto the tag, roll over the stencil with a brayer and remove the stencil. While the tag is drying, rinse the stencil with water.

5. Next add a layer of yellow spray ink onto the second tag and let dry.

6. Take the „Buttercups & Butterflies“ clear stamp set and two sheets of patterned paper (I chose matching colors).

7. Stamp with black ink flowers from the stamp set onto the paper and fussy cut the pieces.

8. Add a golden doilie onto each tag, cut off the residue. Adhere the flowers overlappingly with a paper glue.

9. Stamp suitable sentiments on old book paper with black ink and fussy cut those. Glue on place and outline with a black pen.

10. Embellish with half pearls, glitter glue and liquid pearls and paper flowers. Add ribbons in matching colors.

Here is also a start-to-finish video for you to watch, hope you like it!! Have fun creating with the cool ARTplorations stencils and STAMPlorations stamps!!!

I hope you get inspired to play with your stencils and stamps and create a fun project or two!!

Have fun,
Sanna

Hello lovelies, Christmas is coming and before you know, it´s 2017!!! And speaking of 2017, have you already made thoughts about what you are going to do next year? Set goals? I haven´t :). I am just going to wait and see what the New Year has planned for me… And thus I created this art journal spread:

Universe Art Journal spread - Sanna Lippert

And this is what I used to create the galaxy/universe type of background:

Universe Art Journal spread - Sanna Lippert

There is lots of Tattered Angels spray inks (Chalkboard, Glimmer Mist and Simply Sheer) as well as some Decor&DIY paint in there. A stamp set, a white gel pen and a black marker. Other than that I used old book sheets and a vintage typewriter.   Universe Art Journal spread - Sanna Lippert

I am sure you have seen lots of space/night sky backgrounds popping up on social media and created in a variety of ways. Don’t they just look good? I love them! So I have been wanting to create that kind of background myself for a while. But instead of grabbing stamp inks, I went for my favorite product, Tattered Angels spray inks. And they worked so well in my art journal. I combined Glimmer Mists, Chalkboard Mists and Simply Sheer products and believe me, the shimmer and glimmer is just gorgeous. It makes me really feel like I am somewhere in outer space when looking at it – even if I say so myself. The creating process is really simple to do.

The word „live“ is hand written and fussy cut. The other words/sentiments are either stamped or written with my old typewriter. Universe Art Journal spread - Sanna Lippert

Just look at that gorgeous shimmer and shine on the page!! It is truly amazing IRL!!!Universe Art Journal spread - Sanna Lippert Universe Art Journal spread - Sanna Lippert

So I haven´t really made any New Year´s promises for 2017 and I am not going to. I am just going to live the year as best as I can and in the end of next year I will see, where it took me :).

There is also a short video up over at my YouTube channel,  on how I created the galaxy background with the spray inks. Hope you like it!

Have fun creating,

Celebrate Christmas Tag – Elizabeth Craft Designs

Stamped Christmas tag - Sanna Lippert Hello everyone, today I´d like to share one last Christmas project for this season with you. I created a blue-red-white colored present tag with Elizabeth Craft Designs products and I hope it will make it´s recipient happy. This background is so much fun to make!

Here is what I did:

Stamped Christmas tag - Sanna Lippert

Take the „Winter Sentiments“ clear stamp set and using a waterproof stamp ink, stamp the word „joy“ repeatedly onto the background.

Now take a light and darker blue and a red marker and start coloring the words by starting with the red, then going over to the lighter blue and finishing the third word with the darker blue tone. Then repeating this order until all the words are colored. This creates a pleasing pattern for the eye.

Next die cut the word „Celebrate“ from a piece of ivory toned cardstock. Using another sentiment from the „Winter Sentiments“ clear stamp set, partially stamp only the word „Christmas“ with a black ink. Then fussy cut it and color the piece with the red marker.

Then cut a piece of blue felt and adhere the die cut and stamped words onto that piece. Attach the felt onto the tag with a stapler. Fussy cut a deer image and adhere onto the tag with paper glue. Attach a ribbon on top and embellish with wooden stars which you can color red with the marker. Add a touch of glitter glue on top for additional sparkle.
