Remember When – Canvas Corp Brands

Hello lovelies! I love up-cycling old items and as I recently got some old kitchen items gifted to me by a family friend, I immediately knew I wanted to alter them to various types of home and/or wall art items. So let´s start with the first object – a kind of grating aid, I suppose. It is build out of wood, so it must be quite old and has metal pins sticking out  of the middle to maybe hold a piece of vegetable still when grating. Hard to tell, as I haven´t seen such a piece in action, but that is what I supposed it to be. And here is what I ended up creating out of it:

I first painted the base with Tattered Angels Color Wash paints in Latte and Old Bronze tones. After the paint was dry, I started adding details to the piece.

I added some embossing ink stripes here and there on the very top and bottom of the wooden piece and applied some turquoise ultra thick embossing powder to the areas. Then I wiped the embossing ink around the edges of the piece and added golden embossing powder to the areas. After that I took out some stencils and added Nuvo Mousse thru the stencils to create a leafy pattern.

Next I started building layers. I weaved a hemp cord across the metal pin area and then added some glass beads onto the top and bottom areas to keep the cord on place. Next I took some Paper Whimsy wooden alterable elements and painted those with white paint and golden Nuvo Mousse. The bigger piece also got some 7gypsies rubons added onto the surface. The white pieces have a very thin layer of glitter glue on top of the paint for additional shine.

Creating this type of pieces is very intuitional for me. I go with what feels good for me at the moment, just picking a color combination I want to use and then I just let the piece guide me. I wanted to add wings to the piece, so I embossed Paper Whimsy wings with thick turquoise embossing powder and also added some embossing enamels on top for a more interesting look.

I added some Dresden Paper „rays“ under the wings for an additional detail and poured blue glitter onto the areas in between the rays. And also added some white embossing enamel here and there to better combine the bottom piece with the wings. On the very top there is a resin flower I created with molds a while back. I´ve used golden Glimmer Mist to alter the colour of the flower – you can see that done on this particular video of my Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist video series.

I have used gel medium for adhering all pieces on place as I really want them to stay put, since this piece is designed to be hung on a wall. The remember when chipboard piece really fits this project perfectly in my opinion and adds a nice details to the altered item.

Next time when you are junking, take a second look at those small kitchen items you can find at a garage sale or junk store. You never know what you might find! I really like how this piece turned out.

I hope I could inspire you to take a second look at items you would have otherwise threwn away! It can be so much fun giving them a new life as a piece of altered art!!
Happy crafting,
Sanna
