Die cut scrapbook layout – Elizabeth Craft Designs

Hello there everyone, it´s my turn to share a tutorial for the Die Cut Design Team over at the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog today. My passion for paper crafting originally started with scrapbooking, then I discovered other areas of paper crafting and got distracted. Well, I actually broadened my spectrum, to be more precise.

I wanted to go back to creating a layout for a change, so today´s project is combining die cutting and scrapbooking. The basic die cutting forms (rectangles, squares, ovals and circles for example) can be used in so many different ways. On my layout I chose to make them the center of attention. The layout itself is very simple in style. I left quite a lot of white space on my layout and chose to die cut retro styled scrapbooking papers to match my late 1970´s color photo. Building this layout was a little bit like building a puzzle. Here is what I did:

Step 1: I first chose the photo, then picked papers I found suitable for the photo.
Step 2: Next I picked smaller sizes of the rectangle, square and fishtail die cut dies and arranged the die cut pieces next to the photo onto the white cardstock. This way I could pick suitable sizes and decide how I wanted the die cut paper pieces to be arranged on the finished page. Remember to take a picture when you have arranged all die cut dies onto the page, otherwise you will forget the order.

Step 3: Pick different patterned paper sheets and die cut the papers. I tried to use different designs next to each other for a more interesting, playful look.
Step 4: Adhere the background patterned paper and the white cardstock together with double sided adhesive and then start adhering the die cut squares and rectangles onto their predefined places. Adhere the photo and take a relatively large sticker where you can write the journaling in the end.

Step 5: Grab some white cardstock and die cut various Leafy Brances with your die cutting machine. Adhere the pieces onto the squares for additional detail. Leave some squares empty and fill some. That way the background will look more interesting to the eye.

Step 6: Add wood veneer pieces or other embellishments for additional decoration and use sticker letter to write the title of the page. That is basically all there is to this page. Depending on the colors and forms you choose, the result can look very different. I hope you give this idea a try!

It´s in the Box! – Elizabeth Craft Designs Challenge

Hello lovelies!!! Every month the Elizabeth Craft Designs Die Cut Design Team joins in for a fun challenge. The themes vary from month to month. The idea is that the complete die cut design team create a project around the given theme. This months theme is “It´s in the Box”. Needless to say, we used the lovely box die cut dies on our project this month :).

Here is what I did:

I used the Lantern and the Bonbon box die cut dies to create my take(s) for the challenge. I noticed that I hardly ever can stick to only one project, but need to make a few more while I am at it (not to mention the additional two I created and are not shown here :-).

The Bonbon box is easy to use, as it creates a full box once die cut. You just need to bend the flaps into right position. No adhering needed, thus very easy to do. Perfect for quick and easy projects or if you need to make plenty at once!!! The lantern die cut die on the other hand consists of a half box. So you will need to die cut two similar pieces and then adhere those together to be able to built the actual box. On the above picture you can see how these pieces look like when die cut and where to add (in my opinion the adhesive I added is enough) the Clear Double Sided Adhesive strips. There might be other opinions on how to built these boxes together, but I found this way is the easiest for me personally.

On the above picture you can see that I´ve removed the protective sheet from the adhesive strips and first adhered the bottom flaps together and then adhered both box halves into each other. I found that the easiest way for me. If you are planning on adding a vellum (like I did – I used a blue vellum) behind the lantern “window” areas, you will need to do that right after die cutting the pieces. It´s simply the easiest way to do it. You can also try to adhere them when the box is built together, but will probably notice that it is a little bit harder that way. I am not saying, it will not work, but you will need much more patience that way :-). Why am I telling this? Well, let´s just say I learned the hard way :-). Here are the finished boxed:

The lantern with blue vellum pieces covering the openings and some twine, wooden pearls and a vintage tag as decoration.

Here is the Bonbon box. I decorated it with vintage shipping tickets, twine and some die cut Leafy Branch 2 pieces.

I really like the look the Stone paper series creates in combination with the box dies.

I also made a little tag to go with the boxes. I think these will work perfect for a boy´s/man´s birthday or Father´s Day or any other “masculine occation”.

I used the Through the Lens Stone paper Series on my projects. The die cut dies and the papers are the perfect size (I am using a Big Shot for die cutting) and work really well together. And since there are several pieces of the same paper pattern in the set, you can also create the lantern box with these papers.

Misted background die cut cards – Elizabeth Craft Designs

Hello there, today I´d like to share a set of easy to make misted background, die cut cards with you. They are also up over at the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog. I really like to use color when crafting and spray inks are so much fun. Therefore I wanted to share this simple and easy card making idea with you!

This is how I created the cards:
1. Take a cardboard box (to protect your working area!) and place a piece of white carstock into the box. Very randomly spray areas of the white cardstock with purple and then green spray ink (you can naturally choose any other color combination too). Dry with a heat tool.
2. Take the dry misted cardstock piece and place three die cut dies onto it and run thru your die cutting machine.
3. Remove the die cut parts – save them, as you can use them on another card – and use the background. Adhere onto a white card base.
4. Take another piece of white cardstock and die cut a sentiment/word at least three times. Adhere the die cut words on top of each other and then onto the card.
5. Apply Glossy Accents on top of the word and carefully sprinkle Warm Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter onto the wet areas. You can simply dab off the loose glitter later, since it will only stick to areas where the wet Glossy Accents is. Let dry properly.
6. Finally take some white texture spray ink and splatter around the card for a fun detail. Let dry.


By changing the color combination or adding letter stickers instead of die cut words, you can easily change/vary the look of the card.

We still have the leftover die cut Leaf Branches to use. Here is an example how you could use those leftover pieces:

Basically, using similar ideas, but replacing the background with a dry embossed white background piece and misting the die cut word you can create a nice card with the leftover pieces and nothing goes to waste. Here is a little start-to-finish video to give you a better idea of the single steps. Hope you like it!

New Release! – Elizabeth Craft Designs

Hi there!!! There is something pretty special coming very soon to the Elizabeth Craft Designs store. A brand new release and let me tell you, I LOVE IT! Here is a card to give you an idea of some of the things that are coming:

Sanna Lippert - miss you home die cut cardYou can see details of this release over here. I just know you are going to love the new dies!!! Just look at the Leaf, Rose and Lace pockets, aren´t they gorgeous? And what about the various leaves and branches – big heart eyes here for those :). The Lacy Poppies and all the Love-themed dies, oh boy. I adore this release!! I will be using these ALL-THE-TIME!!

So here is my card, how convinient, it is totally trendy in greens (see Pantone color of the year ;-)…). I´ve misted all the die cut pieces with various green spray ink colours and covered small parts of the branches/leaves with Crackle Accents for a fun detail. By the way, I really, really like the Pantone spring colours too. Some of my all time faves there too. Such a nice top 10!!
