Nikolo – The Nifty Pixel

Hello lovelies!!! It is again time for another hybrid layout tutorial with The Nifty Pixel digi kits turned into hybrid and then into a paper layout :-). Sounds complicated, but it isn´t!!! Just print the digi desings with your home color printer and use them like you would use regular scrapbook papers!!! Easy, right?

For this months hybrid tutorial I created a video for a change! I really, really adore this paper kit. It is actually a maritime themed kit called ADRIFT, but I´ve used it for a Christmas themed page – works for me!!! Here is the finished page:

I love lightbulbs and there are some bits and pieces on the page that I grabbed from the Happy Home collection. The clock and the lightbulb are actually from this vellum piece set:

They work really well together with the ADRIFT collection. Well, actually every single kit works together with each other. The are always some bits and pieces you can combine together!!! And now for the tutorial, here is the video, hope you like it!!!

The kit is bursting with gorgeous seashore themed bits and pieces and the papers are just a dream!!! I hightly recommend you grab yourself this kit as long as it is available!!! You will not regret it! I even created a small altered display piece with this kit for my studio (will share that later). I can see myself using this kit again and again also in the future.

So I promised you another project with this kit and that will follow very soon. This and the next project will also be my very last ones for The Nifty Pixel design team. I will for sure be using the kits also in my later work here and there, but not as a design team member anymore. Having been on the team for three years and some, it is time to give someone new a chance! So this will actually be my farewell project as a design team member. It´s been an amazing three years on the team!! I´ve really enjoyed every second of it and would like to thank Em for having me in the team so long. I will Keep on Stalking Em, the team girls and The Nifty Pixel Website in the future thru social media. Thank you Em for everything! It has been an amazing time and I´ve learned so much about hybrid!!!

Travel ATC cards – The Nifty Pixel

Hello lovelies!!! It is again time to share a hybrid tutorial with some The Nifty Pixel product. This time I´ve created a set of four ATC cards with the Wanderlust digi kit collection:

Here is how I created these ATC cards:

These are the materials I started with (3 sheets of patterned paper and some additional elements from the kit, plus two pieces of plain white cardstock).

I first cut two pieces of the globe paper into a ATC size (64 mm × 89 mm).

Next I cut the tiny tags from the tag patterned paper, punched holes on top of them with the piecing tool by Tim Holtz and added some sewing yearn thru the holes. Boy, those tags sure were tiny!!! After that I adhered the tags onto the globe paper, fussy cut a b&w printed sentiment (from the elements in the kit) and outlined the ATC with a black pen. Next I tore some wanderlust paper and glued that piece o top of the tiny tags. After that I took a piece of corrugated cardboard and adhere that piece on top of the yellow paper (overlappingly). Finally I fussy cut a “R We There Yet” badge and added a orange colored banner on both sides. Finally I also added some black ink splatters as well as some Glossy Accents details onto the artist trading card. For the second ATC I did similar things. Added a teared paper piece, then added a tiny tag paper on top and attached a strip of twine with a stapler on top. underneath all this there is a little piece of real glitter paper, just to add some shine to the card. Like on the previous one, I added a badge image on top and underneath there is a corrugated cardboard banner for dimension. Also on this one I highlighted some areas with Glossy Accents. ..and I just could not resist, I had to add some black Glimmer Glaze :). This is what the first two ATC´s look like. Now off to the next two:For these I used the wanderlust paper as a base. I cut some leaves from the tiny tags paper and outlined those with a black pen to give them a bit more structure. I also like to add outlining to my cards, therefore the black pen outline here again. I had a negative die cut flower piece lying on my table and I found that I suited the travel theme very well, so I fussy cut it and adhered it on a piece of glitter cardstock (from my stash). I then again used some elements from the kit – printed in black & white! – as my sentiment on the ATC card. The became a coat of Glossy Accents to give them a bit more dimension. Finally some blue yarn under the wood veneer piece finalized the ATC. Now for the last one. Here again I used the yellow patterned paper as my starting point. The black and white elements on the photo are from the kit – but just not printed in color. That adds a nice almost vintage kind of feel to the trading card. I used some bits and bobs from my stash, like the leftover piece of double sided adhesive. And the corc piece is from my stash too. I added the adhesive pieces on top of the paper, applied some copper microfine glitter on top. Then all I needed to do was to assembly the previously picked pieces onto the surface, add some outlining, ink splatters and glossy highlights! This one is he simplest one of them all, but I really like the white space on it alot. And now some finished ATC card photos:

Oh, forgot to mention, as you might notice, I´ve added a wood veneer piece or two later and covered those with golden glitter glue. Just could not stop, I quess…. 🙂

As you can see, ATC cards don´t require much, you can go a long way with little bits and pieces. All those hybrid paper pieces you have as leftovers from your projects, why not use them for a quick tag or ATC card? Those are really fun to make!!! Hope you enjoyed this little hybrid step-by-step!

Hello lovelies, time for my April hybrid layout tutorial. This time I´ve used the Gesso Goodness and the Who Lives Here kits as my starting point. Here is an overview on those:

I started by choosing the pink w/ gold splatters background paper from the Who Lives Here? paper pack as my patterned paper base. Next I added various bits and pieces and elements from the Gesso Goodness and Makin´ Marks sets onto the patterned paper. I layered them over each other and faded some more onto the backgrund while keeping part of the elements more bold. That way the background is more interesting to the eye.

When I was happy with what I´d created, I again printed the digi paper design out with my Epson A3 format color printer and cut that into a right size.

I chose a black cardstock as a base for my DIY paper piece and glued it down. Next I printed two portrait images of me (one in color and one in black and white) with my Canon Selphy photo printer. I really do like the fact that I have a small photo printer next to my computer. It makes it so easy to just pick one of two photos from my computer and scrap just those. I used to print huge amounts of photos at once, but then they were all the same size and all in color since I didn´t bother editing them much before printing. I find that this limits the creative process a bit. It can be lots of fun to first edit the photos, change sizes and colors and design and then print them and create a layout with them.

This time I wanted to add some random bits from my “traditional” stash to go with the layout, so I picked a light pink scallop ribbon and a piece of white lace. I colored the lace with Distress Stain and Plain Jane Simply Sheer spray ink (all tones in pink) to match my papers.

After the lace was dry, I glued it on it´s place and took a 3rd Eye (sadly, the company closed their shop) circle stamp and added some stamped black images onto the background. I found that they worked really well together with the Makin´ Marks set.

Since there were golden dots already on the background paper, I added some more using the golden texture spray from Imagine Crafts. It leaves a nice dimensional splatter, when dry. Then I grabbed some chipboard stars (also 3rd Eye) and black texture spray. Some older Studio Calico stickers also went really well together with the kit designs, so I added those too. Ah, and some more texture spray. The white splatters make the background look more “fresh”. And then again some DIY words (from my lovely scrappy friend Lizzy) had to be added. They work really well with the hybrid paper! I wish I had such a nice handwriting…good thing I have her to deliver me nicely written and cut words!!! Thank you, Lizzy <3

The some date stamping to document the date when the photos were taken.

Some puffy stickers from Evalicious and from a Studio Calico kit. The golden ones worked perfectly with this layout theme.

Next I added some journaling and the layout was done.

Here are some detail shots: I really enjoyed combining various digi kits together – all designed by The Nifty Pixel. Then just adding all kind of little tidbits for decoration. Such a fun process to do. Like I´ve said previously, I enjoy the fact that I can create the first “layered” background paper in digital form, then print it out and work my way towards the finished layout from there. That way the layouts don´t get so bulky either. Still lots of detail and layers going on in there, but easily fits a photo album pocket.

You are perfect – The Nifty Pixel

Hello lovelies, time for another hybrid layout tutorial! This time I´ve used the fun “Core Radiance” kit for my layout. Here is an overview of the fabulous collection designed by The Nifty Pixel. If you click the image, it will take you directly to the store.

Here again my starting point. I´ve used the lovely pink patterned paper from the paper kit as my starting point and then layered various elements over it. Some I´ve faded a bit into the background or reduced in shade and others I left as they were. That way there is more dept and variation in the background which makes it more interesting to look at. When I was happy with my digital paper design, I just printed it with my Epson A3 format color printer and cut the paper into size.

Since the paper I print is always slightly smaller than 12×12 cardstock, I like to adhere the DIY paper onto a piece of cardstock. That way I get a matching size to my traditional scrapbook layouts. I again decided to use black and white photos to make the background stand out more. I had so many colors going on on those photos that they would have distracted the eye from the beautiful DIY paper background. I really, really like how the background turned out.

Next I glued the DIY paper onto the cardstock, added DIY words (a present from my lovely scrappy friend Lizzy) and decided to use black puffy alpha stickers with the photos.

Here I am adding some more cool puffy stickers (by Evalicious) to go with my design. I only used matching colors to keep the page more harmonical.

I usually create a A3 sized paper with all kinds of words, elements and designs from the kit assemblied on it, then print it out with my Epson printer and fussy cut the pieces I want to use. The rest I leave on the paper sheet, so I can later go thru various sheets and choose the pieces I want to use. If I fussy cut them all at once, it will be not easy to find the preferred image fast. This way they stay more organized. I could also add the kit name on the sheet to remind me from which kit which images are from (note to self).

This time I used elements from the WHO LIVES HERE digi collection kit to go with my Core Radiance DIY patterned paper design. It is really funny how all Em´s designs go so well together, regardless of the kit theme!!!

And then after fussy cutting and glueing the bits and pieces on their places I again added just a few black texture spray droplets here and there (by Imagine Crafts). I also outlined some puffy stickers with a black pen to make them stand out more from the background.

And a date stamp is there to remind me when this happy moment took places. You tend to forget as the days go by, so I always try to add a date (stamped/written) somewhere.
