Hints of Spring – Mixed Media Card Challenge, Vol. 4

All good things are three four, right?!! Here come some more cards based on the March Mixed Media Card Challenge!! I promise that these are the last ones :).

Spring can be not only flowers and birds singing, but also lots of rain. At least where I live, we get quite a lot of rain during springtime and therefore I also created a card based on that side of spring :). Here it is:

I have first coloured a piece of watercolour paper with Distress Stains in blue and purple tones. After that I ran that piece thru my Big Shot for dry embossing. The embossing folder is by Tim Holtz. I accidentally placed the image wrong way around into the folder, so I got a negative image, which I actually was really happy about in the end, since I now could colour the „plaster/mortar“ parts with a blue Distress Ink to make them stand out more.

Sometimes crafting accidents turn out to be blessings :). Next I just stamped the umbrella man with a black ink and fussy cut him. Then I glued both him and the sentiment (Quintessential Quotes) on their places and added some Glossy Accents to create a „rain“ effect. My rain turned out quite big *LOL*, but I don´t mind. Even though I am not a fan of rain, I really like my rainy card a lot!

And then to outbalance the rainy mood card I created a happy and bright one too. For this one I used a watercolour leftover piece as a background. Every time when I create a project, be it a card or someting else, I keep a piece of watercolour paper next to me. When I have leftover media like ink on a stencil, or leftover paste or glitter that I don´t want to toss, I wipe them onto a piece like this. So in the end there are layers and layers of Distress Ink, spray ink, dye ink, paint, paste, glitter and various media on it. At some point, when suitable for another project, I take these pieces out and pick one. Like this one for this card.

I have also used parts of that paper piece to stamp the little birdie on with black ink. Next I´ve fussy cut it and glued it down onto the background. Since the background is very vivid, I only added the bird and a sentiment.

That´s it for March inspiration from my part – hope you have enjoyed this months challenge! See you at MMCC,

Hints of Spring, Vol. 3 – Mixed Media Card Challenge

Hi there, today I´m sharing yet another card I created for this months Mixed Media Card Challenge.

I am totally in love with the „Save the Date“ collection by Teresa Collins and even though this paper is not quite shouting spring, I just had to use it :). I love the b&w stripes!! To add a little spring feeling, I´ve used bright and happy colours to go with the b&w background. Here are some detail photos of how I made the card:

I took several Distress Stains colours and wiped them onto a piece of white cardstock and let the layer dry properly.

Next I stamped a birdie (Stamp by Hero Arts) with a black dye ink (also by Hero Arts) over the coloured area. While I was at it, I made two – never know when you will need a second birdie for something :). After that I fussy cut them.

I then glued the birdie on it´s place and added some wood veneer arrows to go with it. Also a green rhinestone as an eye :). I then covered the arrows with glitter glue and then cut a little strip of coloured paper and hand wrote the sentiment on it. That´s it!

Oh, and of course I had to add some colour splatters here and there, you know me ;-). This time with pink Glimmer Glaze. And I also outlined the birdie image with a black pen to make it stand out more.

So now it´s your turn – there is still plenty of time to play along, so I hope to see you at MMCC!!!

Hints of Spring Vol 2. – Mixed Media Card Challenge

Hello there, time to bring you some additional inspiration to the March Mixed Media Card Challenge :)! This months theme is Spring and the optional element this time is a bird.

And here are some additional cards I created based on this months theme:

On the above card I´ve used some paper leftovers from the Teresa Collins „Save the Date“ collection kit. In addition I´ve punched out some butterflies, again using a purple sprayed leftover paper piece. I then added some yarn in matching colours and outlined the butterflies with a white pen. A pearl in the middle is for additional interest and the little puffy sticker (by Evalicious) is my sentiment.

This is a very clean&simple card, but I like how it turned out and I again got some stash busted too :).

My next card is very different to what I usually make, but I took out some older (as in: I´ve had them for a looong time :)!!) Hero Arts stamps and stamped the brach, fussy cut it (yes I did – and it´s very thin!!), coloured the leaves with a green marker and glued it down on the dry embossed piece. The clouds pattern comes from a Stampin´ Up! dry embossing folder – I just love it! I´ve also inked the clouds with a blue Distress Ink afterwards to give the sky more interest. Next I took a leftover piece (when I make mixed media stuff, I always save the colorful, random leftover pieces for such purposes as these!) of watercolor paper, stamped the birdies on it various times to get different coloured wings and bodies and then did some paper piecing and glued everything on their places. The wood veneer heart is covered with glitter glue and inside I´ve applied some Glossy Accents and poured some micro beads into the empty space.

Quite a lot of work for such a simple looking card, come to think of it ;-). By the way, the sentiment says: You are staggering!

So this was my take – now it´s your turn! Excited to see what you will make out of this challenge! See you at MMCC,

And here is how you can play along:
1. Create a mixed media CARD based on the theme, with or without the optional element.
2. Display the challenge graphic on your blog post and link back to this challenge post.
3. You may enter as many times as you want, as long as each entry is different.

This was my take on the challenge:

This is what is „on“ the card: Pink Distress Stain on the background to create a faux watercolor effect, some partial stamping with grey dye ink, Glimmer Glaze splatters in pink, an old sticker (destashing!!), some wood veneer birdies and tiny leftover paper hearts here and there. In addition I doodled a frame with a grey pen.

I hope you will find some time to play along this month!! It´s a really fun challenge you can interpret in so many ways!!! See you at MMCC, lovelies!
