Honeycombs & Bees – Elizabeth Craft Designs

Hi there, it´s my turn to share a project at Elizabeth Craft Designs blog today and I´m sharing a set of cards created with the Honeycomb and the Bee dies from the new collection.

Sanna LippertWhen I first saw the Honeycomb die, I immediately knew I´d like to create cards with a bright background and add white Honeycomb details on top. This is how I created the cards:

Sanna LippertStep 1: I first took a 10 x 14 cm sized piece of white cardstock and colored it with Brusho. Next I applied a Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet onto a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock. After that I cut 8 Honeycomb pieces and 3 sets with the Bee set from the cardstock.

Sanna LippertStep 2: I then adhered the die cut pieces onto the colored background piece. I saved all the negative images/inlay pieces of the Honeycomb die for my next project. Some I added here and there onto the card background for interest.

Sanna LippertStep 3: Since I had cut the Bee parts from white cardstock, I colored them with a yellow and black marker and assembled the pieces together.

Sanna LippertStep 4: I wanted to add a bit of sparkle onto the bee wings, so I dibbed them into Silk Microfine Glitter – Warm Diamond and polished the glitter. Since the pieces are so small, you can apply the glitter by dibbing it directly into the glitter jar. Then dabbing the residue off and polishing the surface with your finger.

Sanna LippertStep 5: Adhere the assemblied Bee onto it´s place on the card.

Sanna LippertStep 6: I used a black paper pen to add some spots to describe the bee´s flying route.

Sanna LippertStep 7: Use a Seeds of Thought Red Rubber Stamp – Take time or The Best things in Life or Planted in Faith stamp with black ink to stamp a sentiment for each card.

Sanna LippertStep 8: Cut some flowers from White Soft Finish Cardstock with the flower that is in the Beehive die set. Fussy cut the stamped sentiment and adhere it into the open space in the middle of the card. Color the flowers and adhere them onto the card for additional detail. Add outlining to the stamped sentiment with a black pen.

Sanna LippertRepeat the steps on all of the cards. This is how the finished cards look like:

Sanna LippertI created all three cards after each other, but you could also work on them all at the same time, repeating each phase on the particular card. And with the inlay pieces of the Honeycomb die I´ve created another fun project which I will be sharing very soon.

I really enjoyed creating the bright and happy cards. If you prefer a more subtle look, you can use colored Soft Finish Cardstock with white Soft Finish Cardstock and create a very different look.

Happy crafting,
Sanna

Silk Microfine Glitter card backgrounds – Elizabeth Craft Designs

Hello there, lovelies! It´s been quite a while (over a year, to be precise) since my last step-by-step video. Time to change that right now! I took the time and recorded something I had promised to do back in February – a video in German about how to create beautiful glitter backgrounds with Silk Microfine Glitter.

And while I was at it, I did the video also in English…

….and in Finnish.

Since it has been such a long time since my last video, I felt like I was doing it for the first time, so if the result is not perfect, please keep in mind that it has been a while… you tend to get out of practise after a while.

In the video you only see two cards, I actually ended up creating 4 in the end.  For the third and fourth card I used the same yellow & teal glitter combination as on my lace backgound cards on the video, except I used the colors in opposite order. Here is what I did:  Sanna LippertI added first the teal onto the background, then polished it and then added the yellow glitter. After that I die cut some flowers from the glitter paper with the Big Flower Set 1 and used them on my 3rd and 4th card.

Sanna LippertHere is a detail shot of the card shown on the video where the first color I added was yellow and the second was teal.

And finally I´d like to show you some step-by-step photos on how I did the honeycomb background using the die cut protective sheet of the adhesive as a stencil:
Sanna LippertI had some Honeycomb die cut die protective sheet pieces of the Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet which I adhered onto the adhesive surface of the white cardstock. Sanna LippertNext I applied a layer of Chocolate Silk Microfine Glitter over the surface (as shown in the video, remove residue with the brush onto the coffee filter and pour back into the jar). Sanna LippertBefore removing the protective sheet die cut pieces I polished the glitter with my finger. Next I poured the Spring Peridot Silk Microfine Glitter over the white areas and polished the glitter. Sanna LippertThis is what the Honeycomb glitter background looks like. I then cut it into similar sized strips with a paper cutter and as shown on the video, used one of those strips for a card. Here are photos of the finished cards:
Sanna LippertSanna LippertThose die cut flowers are cut from leftover paper pieces and added to the open spaces. The background is made like on the first card, except the colors were added in opposite order. Sanna LippertHere I´ve used the die cut flowers from the above card do create a layered flower. Sanna LippertI hope you get inspired to try the Silk Microfine Glitter out yourself! It is really super fine and because of that, you can do very detailed work with it!

Happy crafting,
xxx, Sanna
