At Home Art Journal Page

Hello lovelies and happy Tuesday! I hope you had a good start into the new week? Mine was nice, I´m slowly starting to feel better after my knee surgery – baby steps, but steps anyways! Yesterday marks 5 weeks in recovery and I am slowly getting better! Yay!!! I am not my old self yet, but I am slowly working myself back to mobility again. It was kinda hard for me to accept the fact, that it will take so much time and effort, honestly. And I know it´s not the end of the road yet, but I feel better than a few weeks back, so reason enough to celebrate little achievements. Thus this page:

I´ll also share some layers until the finished page – here is what I started with:

A layer of Mister Huey´s watercolors to start with (remember those by Studio Calico?). And then some stamping with Nuvo Hybrid Poppy Red stamp ink and the Rubber Dance Doodle Flowers stamp set.

Next some Finnabair Art Basics heavy gesso here and there.

After that some rub-on alphas, random pencil marks and fussy cut paper triangles for texture.

Next I took a palette knife and applied some acrylic paints with it very randomly onto the background. Then I draw along the color lines with Posca pens added a few rub-on animals and a Distress Oxide and Nuvo Embellishment Mousse painted die cut tag (by STAMPlorations) onto the page. Added sentiment onto that and started painting the rub-on animals with watercolour paint.

For fnishing touches I outlined the animals and the triangles with black Posca pen.

It´s a very bold page I created. I just went with what felt comfortable for me and apparently strong colors and bold is what I am going towards at the moment.

Have a great week, everyone!

Hugs – Elizabeth Craft Designs Die Cut Challenge

Hello lovelies! It´s beginning of February which always means that it is time to reveal this months Elizabeth Craft Designs inspirational designer die cut challenge. This months theme is “In Stitches“. Now there are quite a few “stitched” die cut dies available at the Elizabeth Craft Designs website. I chose to use the new Stitched Fishtail die cut die set as my starting point for my cards. Yes, I could not just make one, I had to make two. Once I get going I hardly ever stop at one card 🙂 … btw, please do read until the very end to make sure you join in on the GIVE AWAY at Elizabeth Craft Designs blog 🙂 !!! Good luck!

Here is what I did:

And this is how I created the cards:

First I took two different sizes of Stitched Fishtail die cut dies and cut one white cardstock piece (smaller one) and a patterned paper one. The patterned paper builds the backgroud of the card. Next I cut a stitched heart and the sentiment “hugs” from the same papers.

Next I started stamping the “xoxox” pattern (from the General Sentiments stamp set) with embossing ink onto the white background. After that I added a layer of white embossing powder and heat set that. Finally I applied a layer of Shimmers Water Color Paint “Red/Purple” onto the white background and let that dry.

After that I just wrapped a ribbon around the smaller fishtail piece and attached the heart with a 3D foam piece onto it´s place and adhered the sentiment onto the card. I added some half pearls for decoration.

For the second card I also first die cut various sizes of white cardstock with the Stitched Fishtail die cut set, two stitched hearts and one “hugs” word. Next I colored the pieces with Shimmers Water Color paints (greens, blues and red) and blue Chalkboard spray ink. After the pieces were dry I added some white ink splatters onto the hearts and then adhered all pieces onto a white glossy card base.

I again used half pearls for additional decoration on the card. Both cards are very easy to make. If you don´t happen to own fancy spray ink tones, you can also take regular watercolor paints and play with those and then die cut the pieces. There are plenty of possibilities.

For today’s challenge Elizabeth Craft Designs are giving away sets of the stitched dies (a pack of 5 separate dies that includes: Stitched Hearts, Fishtails, Squares, Rectangles and Circles) to 3 people. To enter simply leave a comment on the Elizabeth Craft Designs Challenge blog post and tell us “What designer challenge would you like to see in the future?”. We will select 3 lucky winners in a random drawing. The winners will be announced on Friday, February 10 on the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog.

And now hop over to the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog to see what how my design team colleagues interpreted this months theme. Hope you get inspired!!!

Happy crafting,
