Blue toned butterfly art journal page

Hello lovelies, it is again time for another Mixed Media tutorial over at the STAMPlorations blog. This time I created an art journal page using various STAMPlorations stencils with acrylic paints.

Here is the finished piece:

It started off totally different as I wanted to play with color and stencils and just randomly added them onto the page. I build a focal point around the beautiful STAMPlorations butterfly stamps and colored them with POSCA pens.

Then I felt that the backgrond was too strong in color in combination with the butterflies, so I did a little trick and added two tones of blue acrylic paint onto the page leaving just tiny peeks into the original background visible thru the random circles. This way the butterflies stood out better from the background and the title/quote would be more visible also.

Here are some detail shots of the page and in the end you will find a start-to-finish video to watch! I hope you enjoy my tutorial and get inspired to play freely in your own art journal!!

Have fun with your stamps and stencils – see you soon with another mixed media tutorial!
Happy stenciling,
Sanna

Things with wings – TAGplorations

Hello there, everyone and welcome to the TAGplorations May challenge! Throughout the month of May there will be various challenges on the STAMPloration blog and they will all have one thing in common – the challenges will all run under the theme: THINGS WITH WINGS!

We start with the TAGplorations challenge and here is my take for the reveal:

I used one of the new stitched nesting tag dies this time and made a happy, colorful tag in a spring theme/mood.

I first die cut the stitched, nesting tag die from white cardstock and then stamped the blossom image with embossing ink onto a piece of vellum paper. I heat embossed the image with white embossing powder and when that was done, flipped the image around and used stamp inks to add color to the image. I did this very randomly to create a soft look. Then I turned the paper around to take a look and it was partly too soft for my taste, so I added some acrylic pen details here and there and then was really happy with the result.

Since this months challenge is about wings, I used a little wood veneer birdy to decorate the big tag and also added two vellum feathers (done in the same manner) on top of the tag. Then all I needed to do was to add a stamped sentiment and some ribbon and a few liquid pearls dots and the tag was done.

So now is your turn, join the month long fun over at the STAMPlorations blog (remember to check back for even more challenges during the month and comment for your chance to win prizes). All details on how to play along can be found here – enjoy and happy crafting!

xxx, Sanna
