Altered clothes tag „Fly“ – STAMPlorations

Hello everyone, it´s my turn again to share yet another Mixed Media tutorial with you over at the STAMPlorations blog today. Quite a while back I shared a clothes tag tutorial with you and today I´d like to share a second one. I always keep nice clothes when I spot them while shopping clothes for me and my boys and later incorporate those in various projects. They are great to alter and work perfect as as starting point for a mixed media project. Here is what I created this time:

Here is what I did:

1. The tag has a logo on it, so I first applied a thin layer of white gesso on top of that area.
2. After that I took old music note sheets and adhered small strips onto the gessoed area.
3. Next I took the Doily Squares stencil and placed it onto the tag. I applied a relatively thick layer of modeling paste with a palette knife thru the stencil onto the tag background and let that dry.
4. After the paste was dry I sprayed two tones of spray ink onto the surface and dried them with a heat gun. Next I added some white and red ink splatters for additional interest.
5. I then placed the butterflies into a misting box (cardboard box) and sprayed a light yellow spray ink layer onto them first.
6. After the first layer was dry, I placed the Super Bubbles stencil on top of the butterflies and sprayed a layer of apricot spray ink thru the stencil onto the butterflies. I carefully removed the wet, misted stencil and randomly pressed the residue ink onto a strip of white paper. That will work as a great starting point for another mixed media project. This way no ink goes to waste.
7. I then outlined the butterflies with a black pen to add more contrast and adhere them overlappingly onto the tag and added half pearls for detail. Finally I adhered a wood veneer piece and a ribbon for detail. This altered clothes tag will make a great present tag for a future present.

There is also a start-to-finish video I prepared for you to give you a better idea of the altering process. Hope you like it!!

I hope you get inspired to play with stencils and alter/recycle a clothes tag or two!! Have fun!!!

Hugs tag – Elizabeth Craft Designs

Hello there! And again I´d like to share another Tag Tuesday post with your shortly today. This is yet another tag I created for the Elizabeth Craft Designs booth to travel along from one show to another. I had so much fun creating these tags!!!

For this one, I´ve die cut the word hugs from a piece of felt. I love how it turned out. The felt is relatively thin, so the metal die actually did a great job cutting it. I also cut some Fitted Fishtails for the background and layered them on top of each other. I used patterned papers (older paperstock 🙂 ) from my stash for this purpose. There is a paper flower and a felt flower banner on the tag – also something from my older stash combined with the lovely Elizabeth Craft Designs product. The leaf is die cut from a Clear Double Sided Adhesive and then covered with Silk Microfine Glitter. Some faux stitching and a ribbon to finish the tag off. That´s pretty much it!

I just love making tags – they are great for destashing older goodies and trying out new ideas. And you can always attach them to gifts for friends and loved ones.

Happy crafting,
xxx, Sanna

Happy Anniversary tag – Elizabeth Craft Designs

Hello there, everyone and happy Tuesday!! Yes, I have another Tag Tuesday project share prepared for today :). And no, I am probably not going to be able to make them for every Tuesday, but I try to post at least one or two a month. Here is a anniversary tag I made:

This one is again one of the projects that travel with the Elizabeth Craft Designs booth from show to show. I´ve used a stencil, a heart and a word die from the Elizabeth Craft Designs product line on this tag. And some Silk Microfine Glitter to spark the heart up a little bit. Other than that there is some white gel pen „faux stitching“ along the edges, a Happy Anniversary sticker sentiment, some white texture paste and wood veneer as well as ribbons from my stash. Tag are great for using up ribbons – from which I own  a few big boxes, so I can make plenty of tags, before I run out of ribbons…

I hope your week has started smoothly, have a great day!!!

Valentine tag

Hello everyone, it´s time for another Tag Tuesday :). This time I would like to share a Valentine´s day tag I made a while back. This again is one of the projects travelling with the Elizabeth Craft Designs booth.

I´ve used a grungy black and white paper on the Background and die cut the arrow, the word Valentine and the feathers from patterned paper. Then I added a layer of Glossy Accents on top of those elements to create some dimension.

Quickly before the Glossy Accents dried up, I poured some Silk Microfine Glitter on top of the feathers for additional shine and let that layer dry. A ribbon and some gems for decoration and this tag was done in no time. In the end I also added a faux stitching along the edges for more detail. That´s it!

Butterfly tag – Elizabeth Craft Designs

Hello there lovelies!!!  Time for „Tag Tuesday„. That just came to my mind when preparing this post, but would be kinda fun to try and post a tag every Tuesday, wouldn´t it? However, I am afraid I will not be able to make one EVERY Tuesday, so these „Tag Tuesday“ posts will be somewhat random in the beginning. But it is a start :).

This tag is one of my projects that is travelling around with Elizabeth Craft Designs booth atm. I made a few cards and tags for shows and this is one of those. There is plenty of things on this tag I really like: Silk Microfine Glitter, Moda Scrap line die cut dies and spray inks by Tattered Angels. I love this combination – happy spray ink colours mixed together with shiny glitter and combined with lovely die cut butterflies. There is lots and lots of spring feel to this tag. Happy spring everyone!!!

Coffee themed tag – Coffee Lovers blog hop

Hi there everyone, I am up today with one last – although I could go on and on with these coffee themed projects, as I AM a coffee addict 😉 – project for the  Spring Coffee Lovers blog hop.

This time I ended up creating a coffee themed tag. Here it is:
And this is how I created it:

First I took a plain white tag and misted it with a Tattered Angels Cardboard toned Chalkboard spray ink. I sprayed the tag really wet so that the color would start „running“ on the tag surface and then quickly dried the surface with a heat gun. That way I got this really cool background look. Looks like spilled coffee :)..! And next I stamped the A Cup Of Roses clear stamp image onto a piece of beige patterned paper. The paper had platters on it, which makes it look like it has been stained by coffee/tea. Perfect for this theme then! I colored the image with markers again – using mainly Copic markers and adding white dots with a white gel pen. Finally I decorated the rose petals and the coffee cup with Rose Gold and Stardust Sticles to add some sparckle to the image. Next I took the Bloomin´ Spring Coffee Basket stamp set and used the sentiment stamps with black ink for the tag background. I repeatedly stamped the images next to each other mainly concentrating on getting the coffee name parts visible on the tag. Then all I did was to fussy cut the Cup of Roses image and adhere it onto the tag. I also stamped a sentiment onto a white paper and inked it with darkish yellow spray ink tone to match the tag colors and adhered the stamped sentiment underneath the rose image. Finally I added some ribbons to the tag and the project was done. I really like the colors on this tag. I am not that big a fan of brown but when I see it on a project, it gets me every time – maybe it´s because it reminds me of coffee 😉 ….

And now hop over to the STAMPlorations blog to read more about this hop! Have fun!!! And do join in too!!!

Let´s stay creative,

Stenciled bookmark – STAMPlorations

Hello there everyone! It´s my turn today to share another mixed media step-by-step tutorial with you. I am very much looking forward to spring already and I have noticed that it shows in my recent work – mainly can be noticed in my color choices. And this project is no exception – lots and lots of happy spring colours peeking here and there. Hope you like it!

Here is what I created:

Take a piece of white plain cardstock (or a big manila tag). Cut into a tag form if you are using a piece of cardstock. Then spray with pink spray ink and let dry or use a heat tool to dry the surface.

Place the Flutterby ARTplorations stencil onto the misted, dry surface and take a palette knife and some Viva Decor Glitter Paste and apply the paste thru the stencil onto the tag with the palette knife. Since the paste is very „grainy“, make sure you wash the stencil after you have used it.

Remove the stencil carefully and let the paste air dry before moving over to the next step.

Take book themed paper bits and scraps, fussy cut them into right size and start adhering them onto the tag as you like. Add punched/die cut elements like butterflies to go with the background theme and decorate with ribbon, washi tape, brads, music notes and whatever you find suitable for the theme.

Take the Trendy Birds 2 stamps and a piece of old book paper and partially ink the sentiment stamp (only the word wings) and press the inked word into the paper. Fussy cut the word.

Next take the Trendy Feathers 2 stamp set and again only partially ink the stamp sentiment with the word „mind“ on it and press onto a piece of old book paper. Then fussy cut along the edges.

After that take small alpha stickers and build the quote „Books give wings to the mind“ with the partially stamped words and the alpha stickers. I always adhere the alpha stickers with paper glue to make sure they really stick to the surface and don´t come off later. Sometimes the adhesive bedind the alphas is not that strong on it´s own. Finally, add some white ink splatters for additional interest on top of all layers. If you don´t prefer splatters, just skip this step. That´s it. Here are some detail photos of the finished tag.

Hope you get inspired to play with glitter paste and stencils!!! Have fun!!!

It´s in the Box! – Elizabeth Craft Designs Challenge

Hello lovelies!!! Every month the Elizabeth Craft Designs Die Cut Design Team joins in for a fun challenge. The themes vary from month to month. The idea is that the complete die cut design team create a project around the given theme. This months theme is „It´s in the Box“. Needless to say, we used the lovely box die cut dies on our project this month :).

Here is what I did:

I used the Lantern and the Bonbon box die cut dies to create my take(s) for the challenge. I noticed that I hardly ever can stick to only one project, but need to make a few more while I am at it (not to mention the additional two I created and are not shown here :-).

The Bonbon box is easy to use, as it creates a full box once die cut. You just need to bend the flaps into right position. No adhering needed, thus very easy to do. Perfect for quick and easy projects or if you need to make plenty at once!!! The lantern die cut die on the other hand consists of a half box. So you will need to die cut two similar pieces and then adhere those together to be able to built the actual box. On the above picture you can see how these pieces look like when die cut and where to add (in my opinion the adhesive I added is enough) the Clear Double Sided Adhesive strips. There might be other opinions on how to built these boxes together, but I found this way is the easiest for me personally.

On the above picture you can see that I´ve removed the protective sheet from the adhesive strips and first adhered the bottom flaps together and then adhered both box halves into each other. I found that the easiest way for me. If you are planning on adding a vellum (like I did – I used a blue vellum) behind the lantern „window“ areas, you will need to do that right after die cutting the pieces. It´s simply the easiest way to do it. You can also try to adhere them when the box is built together, but will probably notice that it is a little bit harder that way. I am not saying, it will not work, but you will need much more patience that way :-). Why am I telling this? Well, let´s just say I learned the hard way :-). Here are the finished boxed:

The lantern with blue vellum pieces covering the openings and some twine, wooden pearls and a vintage tag as decoration.

Here is the Bonbon box. I decorated it with vintage shipping tickets, twine and some die cut Leafy Branch 2 pieces.

I really like the look the Stone paper series creates in combination with the box dies.

I also made a little tag to go with the boxes. I think these will work perfect for a boy´s/man´s birthday or Father´s Day or any other „masculine occation“.

I used the Through the Lens Stone paper Series on my projects. The die cut dies and the papers are the perfect size (I am using a Big Shot for die cutting) and work really well together. And since there are several pieces of the same paper pattern in the set, you can also create the lantern box with these papers.

And now for something fun!!! Elizabeth Craft Designs have another designer challenge giveaway prepared for you. They are giving away „a box die of choice“ to 3 winners. The winners will get to select which box they would like to receive from the following dies: Star Pillow Box, Triangle Treat Box, Lantern Box, Bonbon Box or Pillow Box with Handle.

To enter simply leave a comment on the Elizabeth Craft Designs Challenge post and tell us „Which is your favorite box from the January 2017 collection?”
They will select 3 lucky winners in a random drawing
The winners will be announced on Friday, March 10 on the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog.

There are always so many inspirational projects up over at the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog! I highly recommend you take a look at them. It is funny, how different each an every project is, even though we all use basically the same product category. Just shows, how many possibilities there are to use box die cut dies!!! Hope you get inspired by this month´s ideas!!!

Bon Voyage – Misted and stamped summer tag

Hi there lovelies & happy weekend!! Today I ´d like to share a summer themed tag with you. I DO know it is still February and on my side of the hemisphere it is still winter :-)!!! BUT I do like the summer seaons very much, thus a summer themed tag today. I originally created this tag for the Canvas Corp Brands summer tag swap last year. Somehow, never got to post it then though… I received a gorgeous tag from my swap partner too! I am definitely enjoying interacting with other creatives from around the globe very much.

This is what I created for my swap partner. I used almost solely Canvas Corp Brands product on this tag (some 7gypsies, some Tattered Angels and some Canvas Corp product line ones). I don´t know if you are familiar with their website? If not, you should definitely start from HERE. There is an amazing selection of projects to see, created with different brand products available at the Canvas Corp store. Then, do also check out the brands YouTube channels (also here and here)! So much inspiration, ideas and creativity going on!!!

Well, then you should DEFINITELY check out this section! That is where the monthly challenge goes live! And as a bonus, you can win some lovely Canvas Corp Brands goodies!!!

So back to my tag. I´ve created a short start-to-finish video where all the used products are also listed :). Hope you enjoy!!

Stenciled paste and paint mixed media tags – STAMPlorations

Hello everyone, it´s my turn today to share a little mixed media tutorial with you. I decided to create a set of two tags using toned modeling paste with stencils. Here is how my finished tags look like:

And this is how I created the tags:

1. Take a white tag and place it into a misting box and using yellow spray ink add a layer of yellow mist. Let air dry or use a heat tool to dry the surface.

2. Mix modeling paste and magenta and tangerine acrylic paint with a palette knife together.

3. Place the „Ethnic Organic Two“ stencil on top of the tag and start applying the toned paste thru the stencil onto the tag. Start with orange and continue with the pink tone.

4. Carefully lift the stencil from the tag and take a second white tag and place the wet paint surfaced tag onto the tag, roll over the stencil with a brayer and remove the stencil. While the tag is drying, rinse the stencil with water.

5. Next add a layer of yellow spray ink onto the second tag and let dry.

6. Take the „Buttercups & Butterflies“ clear stamp set and two sheets of patterned paper (I chose matching colors).

7. Stamp with black ink flowers from the stamp set onto the paper and fussy cut the pieces.

8. Add a golden doilie onto each tag, cut off the residue. Adhere the flowers overlappingly with a paper glue.

9. Stamp suitable sentiments on old book paper with black ink and fussy cut those. Glue on place and outline with a black pen.

10. Embellish with half pearls, glitter glue and liquid pearls and paper flowers. Add ribbons in matching colors.

Here is also a start-to-finish video for you to watch, hope you like it!! Have fun creating with the cool ARTplorations stencils and STAMPlorations stamps!!!

I hope you get inspired to play with your stencils and stamps and create a fun project or two!!
