Altered present box – STAMPlorations

Hello lovelies! Time to share the STAMPlorations March Mixed Media Challenge with you today!!!

The weather has been lovely here the past days and it is slowly starting to feel like spring. I love the fact that the days get longer and the birds are starting to sing. Immediately lifts my spirits!! I might have been inspired by spring on my March reveal mixed media piece :)…. there is a little birdie sitting on top of my altered box. And the happy, bright colours might also have something to do with my anticipation for spring :)…

Here is what I did:
And this is how I altered the wooden box:

I first applied a layer of gesso onto the box. Then went over all sides, besides the bottom, obviously, with the „Ethnic Organic Two“ STAMPlorations stencil and applied modeling paste thru the stencil onto the surface. This took a while, as I always had to let 1-2 sides dry properly before moving over to the next one.   After finishing all sides I placed the wooden box into a misting box (I made myself one, after spraying my keyboard and my working area several times with various spray colours…) and misted the box – both inside and outside – with blue Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist tone „Jack Frost“. Then I decorated the lid with a little bird and two paper flowers. I misted those again with purple and yellow Glimmer Mist tones and added glitter glue here and there for additional interest.

Finally I stamped a Dina Wakley stamp sentiment on a sheet of old book paper and fussy cut that into stripes and adhered them onto the lid.

As you can see, the box is misted both outside and inside.

I can either use this box as a decorational piece or give it away as a present. Just add the present inside and it is ready to go :).

This is a very tiny box. It only measures 10 x 6 x 5 centimeters. I have been thinking of adding a bigger and a smaller one to go with it. That away they would look pretty nice together as a group.

Now it is your turn to create and link up non-card mixed media projects. The theme is always anything mixed media, except a card and you are asked to use at least one stencil (any brand!!!) on your project. The Linky closes at the end of the month. And there are prizes to be won:

– $10 gift certificate to the winner voted by the Mixed Media team
– $5 gift certificate each to the 2 top picks
– AND If there are 25 or more entries: 1 random winner wins any 2 standard sized stencils from the store

so what are you waiting for? Hop over HERE and get inspired by the design team samples and join in with us!!!

Annnddd….just a kind reminder, in case you are in need of stamps, stencils and/or die cut dies, you just might want to add this code upon checkout for 20% off your order at STAMPlorations store 🙂

Stenciled paste and paint mixed media tags – STAMPlorations

Hello everyone, it´s my turn today to share a little mixed media tutorial with you. I decided to create a set of two tags using toned modeling paste with stencils. Here is how my finished tags look like:

And this is how I created the tags:

1. Take a white tag and place it into a misting box and using yellow spray ink add a layer of yellow mist. Let air dry or use a heat tool to dry the surface.

2. Mix modeling paste and magenta and tangerine acrylic paint with a palette knife together.

3. Place the „Ethnic Organic Two“ stencil on top of the tag and start applying the toned paste thru the stencil onto the tag. Start with orange and continue with the pink tone.

4. Carefully lift the stencil from the tag and take a second white tag and place the wet paint surfaced tag onto the tag, roll over the stencil with a brayer and remove the stencil. While the tag is drying, rinse the stencil with water.

5. Next add a layer of yellow spray ink onto the second tag and let dry.

6. Take the „Buttercups & Butterflies“ clear stamp set and two sheets of patterned paper (I chose matching colors).

7. Stamp with black ink flowers from the stamp set onto the paper and fussy cut the pieces.

8. Add a golden doilie onto each tag, cut off the residue. Adhere the flowers overlappingly with a paper glue.

9. Stamp suitable sentiments on old book paper with black ink and fussy cut those. Glue on place and outline with a black pen.

10. Embellish with half pearls, glitter glue and liquid pearls and paper flowers. Add ribbons in matching colors.

Here is also a start-to-finish video for you to watch, hope you like it!! Have fun creating with the cool ARTplorations stencils and STAMPlorations stamps!!!

I hope you get inspired to play with your stencils and stamps and create a fun project or two!!

Have fun,
Sanna

Create something today… – STAMPlorations

Hello lovelies! It is agan time for another Stencil Sunday with STAMPlorations! This Sunday´s project is an art journal sheet, a pretty dark one actually. But first, here are the details for this months challenge (just click the image to go to the page). Hope you´ll join in with us!!! There are prizes to be won too *winks*

And now some details on how I created my art journal sheet:

Sanna Lippert, black gesso, stencil, paint pen art journal sheet

I first gessoed the art journal sheet with white gesso. Then I dabbed some Distress Paint directly to the brayer and applied it with the brayer onto the page. Sanna Lippert, black gesso, stencil, paint pen art journal sheet

Next I placed the Bold Florals ARTplorations stencil onto the page and applied modeling paste onto the sheet thru it. I slightly dried the surface with a heat gun, but only for a few seconds. Sanna Lippert, black gesso, stencil, paint pen art journal sheet

Then I took the Create STAMPlorations clear stamp set and pressed the word „ART“ into the slightly dry modeling paste flowers. It left a mark (almost impossible to see on this picture). Sanna Lippert, black gesso, stencil, paint pen art journal sheet

I left the paste to dry properly and when I came back to the piece, I didn´t really like the colors I had chosen. They were too soft for my mood that day 🙂 – so I changed them… Some black gesso on top of it all and then I let it to dry again. Sanna Lippert, black gesso, stencil, paint pen art journal sheet

After the black gesso was all dried up, I took the Bundled Sage Distress Paint and dabbed some paint onto my finger. I then carefully wiped/dabbed the paint onto the stenciled, modeling paste flowers. This made them stand out more and if you look closely, you might even see the little words (ART) standing out from some flower petals. Finally I outlined the flowers with a white Posca pen, added pink, yellow and green details in betweenthe flowers and then took a white gel pen and doodled the branches (colored them in with dark green Posca pen) and added a hand written sentiment. I really, really like how this page turned out. I think I will need to try this technique out a few more times :).

The Mixed Media Card Challenge #1 – a touch of nature

Hello lovelies!! Remember the new mixed media card challenge site I was lucky to join? Well, it is time for the first challenge reveal over there today!!!

This challenge can be interpreted quite freely, just make sure you follow the challenge rules (you can also find these rules on the right sidebar of the site):

HOW TO PLAY
1. Create a mixed media CARD based on the theme, with or without the optional element.
2. For this challenge only, you may create a mixed media TAG based on the theme.
3. Display the challenge graphic on your blog post and link back to this challenge post.
4. You may enter as many times as you want, as long as each entry is different.
5. You may combine a maximum of 7 challenges (6 other challenges plus ours).
6. Submit your projects by July 25, 11:55 p.m. PDT (GMT -700).
7. We’ll announce the winner and favorites on July 31.

This was my take for the challenge reveal:

I used a stencil to first create a faux watercolour image with it (Distress Inks applied over the stencil, then some water and finally press the image onto paper). After that I applied a layer of molding paste over the stencil (same one). Next I stamped the tag, did some outlining and added the color splatters and the wooden embellishments. After that I just took a twig (from my garden), added some twine around it and glued it down onto the card. The leaves are fussy cut from a residue piece of paper.

I am really excited about this first challenge – you just need to go and check out the cards my team colleagues created!!! So, so very inspiring!!!! Loving this challenge site already ♡ …

Hope to see lots of you join in on this challenge, you have time until the 25th of July!!!
See you there,
xoxo, Sanna
