Be the game changer – STAMPlorations challenge

Hello there – it´s time to share the STAMPlorations Mixed Media November challenge reveal post with you today. For this months post I´ve created a set of ATC´s.

Here they are:

When I started creating these artist trading cards, a quote kept coming to my mind all the time. So I named this set after that quote: „Don´t judge a book by it´s cover“. See the look of these ATCs? They are supposed to remind one of a book cover :-D.

At least that was what I was aiming for when creating these. I´ve first adhered patterned paper onto the ATC base, then applied white and red Distress Paint thru the Bubbles Mini stencil onto the paper. After that I added black Glimmer Glaze droplets and outlined the pieces with a back pen (faux stitching).

Then I added a piece of corrugated cardstock and green burlap with a piece of twine. These are supposed to create a book spine look. finally I added some silver thread, buttons and a stamped sentiment which I fussy cut and adhered to the base with 3D foam.  That´s it! I hope you get inspired to try out some mixed media yourself and join in on this months challenge! Here you will find all the details on how to play along and what to create! Just remember that almost anything goes, except a card & that you are asked to use at least one stencil on your project. Now hop over to the STAMPlorations blog to see what my DT colleagues have created for this months reveal.

Happy crafting,

Altered present box – STAMPlorations

Hello lovelies! Time to share the STAMPlorations March Mixed Media Challenge with you today!!!

The weather has been lovely here the past days and it is slowly starting to feel like spring. I love the fact that the days get longer and the birds are starting to sing. Immediately lifts my spirits!! I might have been inspired by spring on my March reveal mixed media piece :)…. there is a little birdie sitting on top of my altered box. And the happy, bright colours might also have something to do with my anticipation for spring :)…

Here is what I did:
And this is how I altered the wooden box:

I first applied a layer of gesso onto the box. Then went over all sides, besides the bottom, obviously, with the „Ethnic Organic Two“ STAMPlorations stencil and applied modeling paste thru the stencil onto the surface. This took a while, as I always had to let 1-2 sides dry properly before moving over to the next one.   After finishing all sides I placed the wooden box into a misting box (I made myself one, after spraying my keyboard and my working area several times with various spray colours…) and misted the box – both inside and outside – with blue Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist tone „Jack Frost“. Then I decorated the lid with a little bird and two paper flowers. I misted those again with purple and yellow Glimmer Mist tones and added glitter glue here and there for additional interest.

Finally I stamped a Dina Wakley stamp sentiment on a sheet of old book paper and fussy cut that into stripes and adhered them onto the lid.

As you can see, the box is misted both outside and inside.

I can either use this box as a decorational piece or give it away as a present. Just add the present inside and it is ready to go :).

This is a very tiny box. It only measures 10 x 6 x 5 centimeters. I have been thinking of adding a bigger and a smaller one to go with it. That away they would look pretty nice together as a group.

Now it is your turn to create and link up non-card mixed media projects. The theme is always anything mixed media, except a card and you are asked to use at least one stencil (any brand!!!) on your project. The Linky closes at the end of the month. And there are prizes to be won:

– $10 gift certificate to the winner voted by the Mixed Media team
– $5 gift certificate each to the 2 top picks
– AND If there are 25 or more entries: 1 random winner wins any 2 standard sized stencils from the store

so what are you waiting for? Hop over HERE and get inspired by the design team samples and join in with us!!!

Annnddd….just a kind reminder, in case you are in need of stamps, stencils and/or die cut dies, you just might want to add this code upon checkout for 20% off your order at STAMPlorations store 🙂

Troubles melt – STAMPlorations Mixed Media Challenge

Hello everyone, a new month always means a new challenge. Today is again reveal day over at the STAMPlorations blog. Hope you will find time to play along with us on this month´s Mixed Media Challenge!!! Here goes:

This is my piece for this months challenge reveal. I chose to use the ARTplorations stencil „Where Troubles Melt“. I wanted to create a decoration piece for my studio to remind me that home IS the place where there should not be any troubles. Since someone broke into our house last month, it has been a little bit hard to feel carefree and safe at home since then. So this piece should work as a reminder for us to get there again.

Here is a little tutorial on how I created this piece:

1. These are the materials: a Ikea plastic frame, a piece of white cardstock and a ARTplorations stencils.

2. Place the stencil onto the piece of white cardstock (in a spraying box) and spray a layer of light grey spray ink on top. Use a piece of cloth to remove the residue ink and let dry.

3. Add a black outlining to the misted words to make them stand out from the background.

4. Add alpha stickers to build a full sentence: „home is where troubles melt like lemon drops“5. Decorate with fussy cut, stamped flowers and puffy pink hearts. I also decorated the backside of the frame, since it is open to both sides. I basicalle repeated the same steps, just by changing the stencil to ARTplorations „Art Happens“ stencil and the spray color to a vintage green tone. Here are the photo steps once more:

And this is the finished backside of the frame. This now decorates my craft area, the „art happens“ side facing my art corner and the other side facing the lounge area. I really like the way this turned out!! It is pretty clean and simple and I feel it is just right that way. Using stencils can be this simple too – doesn´t always need to be tons of media and layers, I think. So I hope you will find the time to play along – would love to see what you make for this months challenge (remember there are also prizes to be won!! – read about the rules and how to play over here). See you at the STAMPlorations blog, lovelies!!!

HOW TO PLAY:

  1. create and link up a mixed media project, anything goes, except a card.
    2. use at least one stencil (any brand!!!)
    3. linky closes at the end of the month
    4. Prizes are a $10 gift certificate for the winner, $5 gift card for two top picks & for more than 25 entries one random winner will get 2 standard sized stencils!!!

Stay creative and stay safe!!!

After the rain… – STAMPlorations

Hello lovelies! A new month means a new challenge – which means it is time to share some mixed media & stencil projects with you again :).
This month I kept to a smallish sized project, an ATC. And I´ve only used a single stencil on my project, but it is all it needs in my opinion.
This is my project:
 Sanna Lippert
I´ve first used a piece of misted and painted residue paper as my starting point. Then I wiped some blue Distress Ink (faded jeans) into the background thru the Droplets Mini stencil. Next I outlined the raindrops with a blue Posca paint pen. Finally I fussy cut this digital coloring file into right size, colored it with Distress Crayons and added a hand written sentiment on top. Sanna LippertI am a summer person, thus the sommery theme, even though it is very much fall aready ;-). Now it´s your turn to join in with us on this months challenge!
Remember to read the rules on how to play along (read here). Basically you are asked to create a mixed media project – anything except a card! And you need  to use a stencil (any brand goes). oh, and there are also PRIZES to be won :)!!!  Hope to see you there!

STAMPlorations Stencil Sunday & Mixed Media Challenge

Hi there lovelies!! Time to share my very first STAMPlorations project with you and today is Stencil Sunday time! Because it´s the first Sunday of the month, it is also time for the monthly Mixed Media Challenge over at the blog.

Here is my project:

Sanna Lippert - Stencil SundayI altered/decorated a fabric bag with stencils, paint, stamps and buttons. I also created a small tag that fits into the bag to go with the fabric piece. Filled with small metal trinkets, this little altered present bag will be a present to one of my scrappy friends. I think she might like the metal bits and pieces…

How did I create this set?

Sanna Lippert - Stencil SundayStep 1: Take the ARTplorations „Bold Florals Mini“ stencil and place it onto the canvas/fabric bag. Add a first layer of High Impact Paint (by Tattered Angels) with a foam brush onto the fabric. Start with the lighter color. Then add the second layer of darker High Impact Paint thru the same stencil, but this time dab the paint only around the center area of the flowers. Let dry.Sanna Lippert - Stencil SundayStep 2: There is now plenty of residue paint on the stencil. Place it down onto the tag the paint area facing towards the tag. Now use a brayer to create a print. Repeat with a new paint layer, when necessary. Next take a pink High Impact Paint and using the end of a paint brush, add little dots into the middle of the flowers. Let air dry.

Sanna Lippert - Stencil SundayStep 3: Add light green Glimmer Mist spray ink onto the tag and use a paper towel to remove residue ink. Then add a stamped sentiment and some bird images onto the bag and the tag. Finally, outline the tag with faux stitching, add fibers and black ink splatters to the tag for decoration. Attach little buttons to the bag for additional interest. Sanna Lippert - Stencil SundayNow fill the bag with the goodies and attach the tag to the bag. Your DIY present bag and present tag are ready :).
