#tuac5minchallenge – Day 11

Hello and happy Wednesday! Mid week – yay!! Here is my take for Day 11 at The Ugly Art Club´s #tuac5minchallenge. Now that you already know what this is about I´ll just add the finished piece and the video every day to save time.

You can find all the steps in the video anyway, so no need to write them down and I also try to find alternative products (similar to the used ones) linked to the product list, just in case you want to create something similar yourself.

I again ran out of time. I would have wanted to add more, but forced myself to stop, because the challenge is about keeping the time frame in about 5 minutes.

It´s good practice to try and do only short periods. Usually, when I sit down and work on a project, hours just run by without me noticing. So it´s good to set a timer and show myself that sometimes only a little time is enough. And then there is plenty of time for other stuff too.

Have a great evening!

#tuac5minchallenge – DAY 10

Hello and happy Tuesday! It´s day 10 with the Ugly Art Club 5 min challenge for me – I cannot believe I have made it to day 10 already (and btw. I still have no idea whatsoever on how long this challenge will continue..). But here is day 10:

I´ve changed the format and did a tag this time. I still have some pre-prepared tags from the face drawing challenge left over and I thought it would be a good place to use them up. And it´s good to have some bits prepared already when you start with the 5 minutes… because it´s VERY short a time frame.

I personally find that this challenge is way harder for me than the face drawing one. Why? Because I am supposed to do something else every day in such a short time frame. And there is only so much you can do. Doing heavy media would mean drying times. And I´m way too impatient to wait for the next day :-D. I want to finish in that time frame. Therefore it gets harder to decide what to do each day. But should I find myself stressing too much about it, I will change the process and just start one piece, do a few steps, let dry and work on it again the next day. But today was fun. Simple and easy steps and got lots of junk used up too. Win win :).

I also lost a piece of book paper (very tiny) while filming and spend a ages looking for it – never found it. So you´d think that by now I knew I should prepare everything BEFOREHAND, but I still loose pieces, seach for stuff and be my chaotic self. And that in the 5 minutes frame is just dumb. But that´s just me.

I hope you still enjoy the video and the art piece I made. See you again tomorrow!

Stenciled bookmark – STAMPlorations

Hello there everyone! It´s my turn today to share another mixed media step-by-step tutorial with you. I am very much looking forward to spring already and I have noticed that it shows in my recent work – mainly can be noticed in my color choices. And this project is no exception – lots and lots of happy spring colours peeking here and there. Hope you like it!

Here is what I created:

Take a piece of white plain cardstock (or a big manila tag). Cut into a tag form if you are using a piece of cardstock. Then spray with pink spray ink and let dry or use a heat tool to dry the surface.

Place the Flutterby ARTplorations stencil onto the misted, dry surface and take a palette knife and some Viva Decor Glitter Paste and apply the paste thru the stencil onto the tag with the palette knife. Since the paste is very “grainy”, make sure you wash the stencil after you have used it.

Remove the stencil carefully and let the paste air dry before moving over to the next step.

Take book themed paper bits and scraps, fussy cut them into right size and start adhering them onto the tag as you like. Add punched/die cut elements like butterflies to go with the background theme and decorate with ribbon, washi tape, brads, music notes and whatever you find suitable for the theme.

Take the Trendy Birds 2 stamps and a piece of old book paper and partially ink the sentiment stamp (only the word wings) and press the inked word into the paper. Fussy cut the word.

Next take the Trendy Feathers 2 stamp set and again only partially ink the stamp sentiment with the word “mind” on it and press onto a piece of old book paper. Then fussy cut along the edges.

After that take small alpha stickers and build the quote “Books give wings to the mind” with the partially stamped words and the alpha stickers. I always adhere the alpha stickers with paper glue to make sure they really stick to the surface and don´t come off later. Sometimes the adhesive bedind the alphas is not that strong on it´s own. Finally, add some white ink splatters for additional interest on top of all layers. If you don´t prefer splatters, just skip this step. That´s it. Here are some detail photos of the finished tag.

Hope you get inspired to play with glitter paste and stencils!!! Have fun!!!
