All rolled into one – The Nifty Pixel

Have you already tried a mixed media styled hybrid layout? There is a fabulous mixed media digi kit available at the Digichick store, designed by The Nifty Pixel. Check out the “In Silhouette Vol. I Kit here. This might just be my all time favorite kit EVER! It is so very versatile. You can use the designs for so many kinds of artworks: ATC´s, art journal pages, layouts, pocket pages, cards and so many more.

For additional details and some of my thoughts on creating this page – pls. also see this post at the Nifty Pixel website!! 🙂

This is how I created my layout:

I first assebmlied the Silhouette images onto the background and then added a layer of details/elements from the “Making Marks V.2 Brush Set” over them. After that I printed the paper and cut it into a right size and matted it onto a piece of deep red cardstock. Approximately the same color as the red Silhouettes.

Next I added some metallic texture paste onto the background thru a The Crafter´s Workshop stencil and let it air dry. When that layer was dry, I applied some black Glimmer Glaze droplets here and there and let those dry properly. After that I added some outlining/doodling around the edges by using a black pen.

When I started creating this page, I knew I wanted to create a page for my “me book”. I also wanted it to be “different”. While creating, the lyrics of Alanis Morrisette´s song “I´m a bitch” came to my mind and I knew I wanted to use parts of the lyrics as my journaling. So I printed the lyrics with my black and white printer, fussy cut them and glued them on their places.

I have kept to only a few colors on this layout, so I also wanted to use alphas in similar color. However I had ran out of “l´s” already, so I had to improvise. Number 7 turned upside down gives a great “l”, don´t you think? And creating an “e” out of an “F” and a “dot/square” is also a way to work your way around missing alpha pieces :-). Finally I just outlined the journaling pieces with a black pen to make them stand out from the bold background better and added a few yellow resin embellishments as additional detail here and there.

So all in all this layout is a really easy one to do, yet it is very bold and I love the effect the repeated black and white photos create. I had a blast creating this layout and I really am in love with this kit. If you have been thinking of giving hybrid/digi a try, why not start with this kit. It sure is very versatile and gives you lot´s of creative freedom, whatever you choose to create!

Hope you have enjoyed this little insight.
Happy hybrid times,
xxx, Sanna

With hearts and sprinkles at hand you will be spreading the love in an instant even if at times that positivity notion maybe lacking, this kit will leave you feeling good all over!

And there is more:
and even more ;-)… how about a freebie??
annddd…. this is my layout made with the kit (and just a few bits and pieces from my stash..):

and a few detail shots:

I have first used a blue digi plain paper, added some digital elements from the kit (again using InDesign) onto the paper and first then printed it with my color printer. Next I just cut the paper in size to fit onto a piece of cream cardstock (from my stash) and glued it down. I then fussy cut some elements and glued them on their places. I also added some ink spray splodges (green) and a few stickers and hearts from my stash to go with it all. Then all I did was to outline the blue paper with faux stitching and to write a short journaling to go with the photo.

That´s it! I am really enjoying the layering part of the elements and first then printing the paper, when there is already lots of stuff “going on” on the background. I just loved the element designs from this kit – as you probably can see from the amount of layers there are on the blue paper :). Such great fun!!! I hope you give this kind of hybrid a try.

Oh, and don´t forget to go HERE for some more inspiration and just in case also adding the direct link to the store :-).

Have fun scrapping and enjoy your weekend,
xxx, Sanna

LAX-VIE – The Nifty Pixel

Hello there, everyone!! One of the new The Nifty Pixel May digi kits is called “Wanderlust”. What a gorgeous kit for those travel photos!! I absolutely adore the designs!! If you click on the kit preview image, it will directly take you to the ScrapStacks store where you can do some rerious digi kit shopping :-)!!!

Like I wrote on my previous post, I now print these digi papers at home with my Epson A3 color printer. So practical and so easy!!! And if you look at the end results, there is hardly any difference to a bought “real” patterned paper. The only difference is that my 12×12 inch is about 8 millimeters short of the proper size. But I can totally live with that. And if you combine these papers for example with regular cardstock, no one will notice the difference :).

I´ve scrapped about my January 2015 trip to CHA this time. What a trip and what an experience!!! And I so much would like to do another trip to USA some time!!! Need to start saving some money, I think :).

Did you notice the cool world map and the b&w camera image on the layout? Well, they are from the brush & stamp kit as well as from the main kit and I´ve printed them on Rub-Onz Transfer film. And that means I can go and create my own “rub-ons” from the digi images. That is sooo cool! It costed me a little fortune to get my hands on the transfer film as I ordered it all the way from the US and the shipping costed quite much. See, I was not able to find a similar film/foil here at that time. But apparently there are similar products available in Europe too… my hubs did some internet searching and found a product that looks pretty similar and it´s sold at Amazon. Might need to give that a try later. But in the meanwhile I will keep on using the Grafix Rub-Onz transfer film sheets :).

While testing that film, I naturally did everything wrong the first time and could not get it work. Luckily, there is some help to be found on YouTube! So I tried again and did exactly what the lady showed on the video and it worked! And now I cannot stop to thing of all the possibilities this product offers me. I can make my own rub-ons for my artworks. And I can even do colors!! How cool is that!!! Cannot wait to play more with this product! It is a perfect match for The Nifty Pixel digi kits designs!! You need to give it a try :)!!!

Ok, got a bit off topic there, I guess. Should have been talking more about the layout, right? Let me just add that these digi designs are gorgeous and so much fun to work with!! Love, love, love the travel theme!!

Wishing you all a happy scrappy time with Em´s kits!!!!

So fabulous – The Nifty Pixel

Hello there, lovelies!!! There has been a few digi kit reveals over at the Nifty Pixel blog in the past weeks which I totally missed. BUT I have still not been uncreative.

The reason why I have been chasing my tail is a) I lost my job recently which led to a frantical job search with lots of ups and downs in my daily life. The hardest part was to get thru the “psycological side effects” such a throw back brings with it. And, to be honest, I am still struggling. And then, when I had almost given up on believing a new job came along. So the past weeks, since I started at the new job, have been a real rollercoaster ride. I am trying to get myself and the family to adjust to all these changes and challenges the new situation brings with it. That is why I don´t seem to be able to finish things in time and always find myself a little bit behind the schedule.

And then there is reason b) too. See, I bought myself a A3 color printer which allows me to print the gorgeous digi designs into hybrid gorgeousness in the convenience of my own home. LOL! Sounds like a marketing slogan ;-). So all the hybrid papers I am using from this card on, are printed with my new color printer.

Here is the first one made out of the “In the Garden” mini kit Em designed. I have used the gorgeous birdie paper on the card :).

And then something to my printer. Like I said  it is a A3 color printer and it is by Epson (Epson WorkForce 7610DWF). When I print the 12×12 inch papers, I use an A3 sized paper and print in landscape mode. That way I get an almost 12×12 inch sized page out in the end. Only one side is about 8 mm short of the regular 12×12 inch size. Which I don´t mind at all – if you are not measuring, you will hardly notice any difference. The printing results are great and the printer is quite fast too.

This paper is also printed with that particular printer. I´ve only added a little vellum piece to go with the patterned paper and then added some stamping, ink splatters and an older Prima flower from my stash.

Hope you will give hybrid a try!! It is soooo much fun 🙂
