Looking back AJ page

Hello and happy Friday!! This also means some vacation time for me! Yay!!! I am again stopping by to make another art journal share today. This time it´s another face experiment. This one is very soft compared to the ones I have been sharing recently. I don´t know why she turned out like that, but really like the result. I always start with an idea and then it just starts to live it´s own life and turns into totally something else than I planned.

The starting point for this face was a Tim Holtz stamp set called Tiny Text. I simply applied grey StazOn onto the stamps, while they were still all attached to the packaging and stamped the words into my journal. I wanted to paint a face on top of stamped sentiments. So I did.

I think it was the words that let me to this softer look. I grabbed the gloss sprays and sprayed magenta, lemon, cheddar, white and fuchsia tones around the stamped are. Then I drew the face.

I colored the hair with Scribble Sticks (also by Dina) and wrote the quote. The eyes, lips and the blue splatters are done with Scribble Sticks too. All in all this was a really simple page to do. But I really like the look of it.

Now that it´s summer holiday time – what are you planning on doing? We are not going to fly anywhere, even though flights to some countries are already possible. Just playing safe and not stepping into an airplane. On the other hand, we miss the sea..so there is a certain conflict there. We´ll probably just end up spending the vacation at home in the end. Rather play safe than be sorry..

Have a great weekend, lovelies!

Rainbow of happiness AJ page

Hello and happy Monday! Today I´m stopping by to share another face experiment from my art journal. This one is a little bit crazy, because of the smiley face and the strange darkish purple face.

See, I started the page with my brand new Dina Wakley gloss sprays and I just sprayed them directly into the page without gessoing it or anything. I just had gotten hold of them and was practically just spraying around to see what happens and how they react. I did lots of gorgeous colours like magenta, turquoise, yellow and purple from her spray line. Then I was like: „now what?“

Then I thought that as I had already gone crazy with rainbow colours, why stop there! So I simply drew a face on top. And not just any face – a smiley face! I am really bad at teeth..but who cares. Practise makes better, right?

So the teeth might not be perfect, but I really like her eyes (the iris!). They look so real. I am not going to lie, that was just a lucky accident that they turned out so nice. The rest is more or less crazy. LOL!

BUT, since I did all the colours of the rainbow, I added a fun rainbow quote to the page to finish it off. Et voilá! And because she looks all happy and is smiling, I just needed to add a flower into her hair!

Wishing you a fabulous week and lots of sunshine!

Mixed media „tags“

Hello everyone and happy Sunday! Today I´m stopping by to share a set of „tags“ with you. I call them tags, but they are actually just wripped off pages from a small journal. I have been following Dina Wakley´s Facebook lives throughout the physical distansing period and have gotten addicted to her products :).

And on Friday these beauties arrived!! I had finally given in and ordered myself the gloss sprays!! And a few of Dina´s paints and some other goodies (by Tim Holtz). Thanks, Art From The Heart for the fast delivery!!

And then I started to play – I hadn´t used the sprays before, so there was lots of „spray and learn“ things going on in my studio. And once I got the hang of it, I did a few tags, a few art journal pages and such. Here is the first „tag“ set featuring some of Dina´s products.

I also used a spray ink by Lindy´s on the background (the brown one), but the rest is by Dina, Tim and Dyan. You guys cannot imagine how much fun I had!!!

On this one I just wiped some residue heavy body paint onto the background, then dabbed some residue gloss spray onto it and took a paint comb and did the pattern. Then Lindy´s spray on top and for finishing touches Dina´s washi and bits and pieces from her collage collective book and Dyan´s journal cover slip.

For the second one I did he background again with Lindy´s brown spray. Then I took bits from Collage Collective book and cut them into pieces and created the cluster. The stamping is done using StazOn stamp ink in dark grey and Tim´s stamp set called Tiny Text. I also drew a leaf branch with Scribble Sticks and added a button.

I really like the tags – I am for sure going to incorporate them either into an art journal page or onto a card at some point. We´ll see.

Happy crafting,

Shadow AJ page

Hello and happy Friday!! Today I´ll share another art journal page from my Dylusions journal with you. This time my starting point was a black background:

I wanted to play on a black page for a change, so I painted one of the journal pages black. Then I drew the face with a white Posca pen. At first it looked a bit strange, almost like a negative image, but when I started adding colour, she looked more and more interesting and fun.

One of the struggles was to get the eyes „right“. When I left them black and only drew with white, they looked empty. Then I colored the irises with light blue. Still looked strange! Then I realised I could color the white parts with a white Distress Crayon and then they started to look better.

Because of the dark background I could go crazy with colour. I really like how the paint tones look against the dark. When I was done with the face and hair, I added random pattern around the „white space“ and wrote a quote with white.

She looks crazy colorful and creating her made me happy. And that is what matters most! I am just creating, not trying to overthink and plan too much. Just play, play, play and fill my journal with fun times and projects. In the end I will see how far I´ve gotten and how much I´ve developed. Still quite a few pages to go :).

Have a great, creative Friday and a wonderful weekend, lovelies!

Perspective AJ page

Hello and happy Thursday!! Today I´m again stopping by to share another peek into my art journal. This one resulted from random play again. I was just adding colours until everything felt right and then went from there.

I had originally pressed a wet stencil onto the background (can you see the light stencil pattern peeking thru here and there? Next I added more spray ink to the right edge and let the ink move freely and created droplets. When it was dry, I took a The Crafter´s Workshop stencil and applied Dina Wakley´s turquoise paint thru it onto the page. I love the orange with the turquoise! Such a fresh combo!!

Then I felt like adding black. That made the rest of the colours pop! I loved the look, so I didn´t want to overdo it. Therefore the Posca Pen drawn faces. they are light and don´t compete with the rest. I love drawing this type of faces so much! Learned to love it at Louise Nelson´s class in Norway two years ago :).

Then I found a quote that I liked and wrote that down with a white signo uni-ball pen. I´ve ruined quite a few (was not patient enought with wet paint – I wil never learn!), but got myself replacements, so everything is fine now :).

For the hair parts I used a grey Distress Crayon by Tim Holtz/Ranger. Rest is Posca pens. I think I am going to put this one in a frame at some point.

Have a gorgeous day everyone!!
