Daily Art Practice – Day 30

Hello and happy Monday! How are you doing? My last week was a little from the rough side, therefore I also worked ahead abit. You really cannot do any productive things when you have has fresh surgery. Rest and recovery comes first! Therefore I have done quite a few days beforehand. Hope you don´ t mind.

See when I started this personal year-long challenge, I didn´ t really give it much thought :). Like, there will definitely be days and times that I simply cannot do a piece a day! Didn´ t think about that back then… So I will just live with what comes as it comes, I´ ve decided. I mean, it´ s just life, it´ s my time and my joy. If something comes in between, then so shall it be.

I hope these posts still cheer you guys up abit, inspire you and brighten your day. They do brighten mine! There are so many bad things going on in the world and so many peeps are depressed and down, so I try to do my bit and give you something cheerful to look at. Hope it helps!

I used Dina Wakley paints, STAMPlorations stencils (my line there), Distress Stains, Heavy Gesso, a Stabilo all pen and and Klartext “Denglisch 2” stamps. I´ ve used the “Denglisch” set on my previous pages, so I swapped to the set number 2 for the next days. I love adding those sentiments to these pages :).

Oh, and the translation goes something like this: “Don´ t invite trouble!”.
See you again tomorrow!! Have a great start into your week,
xxx, Sanna

#the100dayproject – days 96-100

Hello and happy Sunday! Today I´m shortly sharing the next faces of my personal #the100dayproject2021 challenge. Like mentioned before I drew a face a day on a pre-prepared, die cut tag. You can also see all the posts on my Instagram account (here), since I am now done with the drawing challenge. And you can also watch all the videos directly on my YouTube channel too (here).

And these are the very last ones! The challenge was so amazing to do. I have been scared to try it for such a long time.. silly of me really! What could happen if I failed? NOTHING! And all in all, I learned quite a lot during the 100 days on how I´m capable of things if I just put my mind to it AND that I have persistency enough for such a challenge. Maybe it´s also because I picked a good theme that was easy to work with. I didn´t put myself too many restrictions either which made working easier. And I was enthusiastic also. Might make a big difference too.

I enjoyed the challenge very much. And I had a good time drawing these faces. I learned alot and am happy with the development I made. I am now more confident when it comes to painting faces on canvases or into my art journal. Why? Because I have done a few and at least know what feels easy to me. I don´t have to make perfect, realistic faces, I can do ones I feel happy and comfortable with. Faces that match my skill level (which is beginner!). And it´s OK that way.

I might just challenge myself do some other things soon again in a similar manner. Pick a theme and do like, 50 days or a month or so. Just have fun and concentrate on something that is of interest to me. Does not have to be drawing at all.

So from my point of view I can highly recommend this type of challenges. And so what, if you take longer than 100 days to finish the 100 day challenge. That is totally ok too. Whatever works for you. Remember, you set these goals yourself and for yourself (and no-one else).

Happy drawing,

For the next to last set I did a pop-art-face, because the tag was quite large, so it was a good one to draw that type of face onto. The second face has really strange proportions. I could not do a set of faces without once adding droplets, so this one got loads of them.

The last three had really gorgeous colours on the tags already, so I didn´t want to hide them. Therefore I went with a black Posca pen drawing for them. That way the colorful background really pops.

#tuac5minchallenge – Day 5

Hello and happy Thursday! Today it´s DAY 5 for me with the #tuac5minchallenge called to life by The Ugly Art Club. Without any further ado, here is my take:

I so so love how this turned out. I used plenty of “junk” here again. Bits of old book, then japanese magazine pages which I got gifted from my boys who are anime fans. They knew I´d love newspaper bits in foreign language. See, the good thing is I have no idea what is standing on this piece, for me it´s just beautiful letters as texture in the background. On top of that I have a bottle label and old rub-ons and a very pretty Prima flower. I wish I had more of these from back in the day!!

I got inspired by a fellow participant (Lisa Goddard) to try out stitching! She did a beautiful piece a few days ago and I noticed she had managed to add in stitching! I wanted to try out how that would go. Well, let me tell you that if I hadn´t added it, I would have had more time to add other things that I now didn´t have time for. But I´m proud to have tried it out. You can do it, but you need less steps afterwords to finish in time.

This piece is sarcastic regarding the text. The bottle label as a focal point and then underneath it says in German: “Mittel um gesund zu werden” which translates to: “Means to get well”. That I did on purpose ;-)..

See you tomorrow again!

For this set I was coming towards the end already. After drawing the Queen of Hearts I wanted to give a try on Corpse Bride. So that was the first one. The floral tag went perfectly with the monochromatic bride in blue. For the second one I had pre-treated the die cut tag with india ink and therefore it was quite busy already. I figured white, black and red would work well, and first drew the “pop-art” face only in red. However it disappeared into the background, so I added black lines for contrast.

The 3rd one was again full on colour, because I just felt like that again. Day 89 was my second (?) – I´ve lost count – paste treated tag, so I had only so little space for a face, so I went with what I knew and did smaller faces. this time in one-line-style. The last one was a heavily gelli printed tag with lots of colour on it, so I chose a red headed girl for that one. I also only at this point figured, that I could let the hair “flow” in wind. After 89 drawings *LOL*. Thus, flowing hair here.

As you can see everything is a process and you learn as you go, some things come easier as others :).
