Make today count canvas

Hello there, lovelies. I am up over at the Canvas Corp Brands blog with an upcycled canvas project you might be interested in taking a look at. It is an older canvas I didn´t like that much anymore, so I took it, removed some bits and started all over again with it. Here is a look at my brand new upcycled canvas piece:

For a step-by-step TUTORIAL see this blog post over at the Canvas Corp Brands blog. I hope you get inspired by my upcycling project and take a second look at your own deco pieces that might be in need of some upcycling love 😉 …

Inspired by Iceland Art Challenge

Hello lovelies, I´ve again joined an art challenge organized by my dear, talented, friend Tina and a bunch of other creative geniuses. These collaborations/challenges are always so much fun. They push ones creativity, force one to walk out of one´s comfort zone and in the process you always discover something new. AND you get to know lots of creative peeps a lot better! It´s friendly and supportive. Just the way I like it :).
Inspired by Iceland Art Challenge

This time the challenge is about Iceland – there are no other requirements or rules. We were supposed to get inspired by Iceland in general and create something/anything around that theme. What we created, was totally up to us. There are some things that immediately come to mind, when thinking about Iceland: volcanic island, ice, water, northern lights, rocks, fays/elfs, ponys and Björk (love her music!) just to mention a few.

For me, growing up in Finland, it felt comfortable to think about my childhood, the things I grew up with and combine those things with Iceland in my art piece. So I went for an approach towards nature. Ancient Finns believed in all kinds of sprites, feys and elfs, so there are some similarities there to Iceland and I used those as a starting point. In Iceland they even have an elf school (see here).

So I created a forest fay/elf. I tried to use as much natural materials as possible. There is felt, wood, stone and wool on my artwork. Some pieces are eco dyed (felt/lace). I tried to combine as many family “roots” into this piece too – the wool I used is from Finland, the stone is from Greece, the wood piece if from Austria (and the eco dyed felt is a present from Tina – which just perfectly fits into this challenge, being organized by her). These countries above pretty much sum up our family roots. The fay is something that is typical for Iceland. And the word love: thru love all these different places or roots are combined together in our family.

I feel really strongly connected with my piece, it is way more than just a piece of artwork you put on display. It has a story, a special meaning to me. It has inspired me to make more – I want to make a series of these, representing other things important to me.

SannaLippert_guardianfay_InspiredbyIcelandArtChallenge

In the beginning, when I signed in for this challenge, I was a little bit unsure what to make. Iceland as a theme felt challenging. And I had never been there! It´s hard to be inspired by something you have never been to, I thought. So what to make? BUT then when all these bits and pieces fell into place, it was pure pleasure creating this piece. It is one of my faves ever. You know, sometimes you make something that is more than an artwork. It develops a spirit of it´s own. That is how I feel about this piece.

I would like to thank Tina for always challenging us, pushing our boundaries and getting us involved with projects that help us develop. That is at least how I feel about this challenge. Thank you so much Tina, I loved this one!!! Happy to do another one, whenever you feel like it <3!

Travelling tags and more – Canvas Corp Brands

Hi there, I have actually managed not to post some of my work on my blog since Christmas… about time to change that! I did a series of tags and a canvas that went to the Canvas Corp Brands CHA 2016 booth and have been travelling with them ever since :). Lucky tags – I wonder if they´d take me instead of the tag *giggles*…

I´ll start with tag No.1:

Sanna Lippert Sanna Lippert Sanna Lippert Sanna LippertPretty much everything on this tag is Canvas Corp Brands product (the corrugated cardboard, the spray inks, the Tattered Tangles paper, the burlap and the stamping. The only thing that is not their product, are the stencils I used and the &-sign. Now to tag No.2:

Sanna Lippert Sanna Lippert Sanna Lippert Sanna LippertThis again, is a full Canvas Corp Brands product tag. It´s Christmas themed, since there was a little Xmas corner on the CCB booth at CHA. And then there was tag No. 3:

Sanna Lippert Sanna Lippert Sanna Lippert Sanna LippertThis one is quite clean & simple actually. I did add quite an amount of Distress Glitter on it :). And the bow, the bow was my personal favorite on it. I wanted to keep it as an eye catcher. Here again, mists, stamping and paper by CCB. And there was also a canvas I sent them: Sanna LippertI´m really happy this one made it to the display. I like the colors on it alot. Again, I´ve used all kinds of Tattered Angels goodness on this one. In addition corrugated cardboad by CCB, lots of misting, some die cut dies and some stamping.  Sanna Lippert Sanna Lippert Sanna Lippert Sanna LippertI really like the product lines at Canvas Corp Brands. Everything works together, older or new product! All paper lines are very timeless. I obviously have a weak spot for their color lines, but I recommend you check out their canvas, burlap and fabric lines too. And don´t forget the papers :). Love working with this company´s product!!!

I also sent some other work with all these pieces to CHA, but that has been already shared here at some point, so no need to mention those again.

Happy crafting,

12 tags of 2015 – December w/ Canvas Corp Brands product

Hello there, lovelies! I´ve wanted to share this tag for months now, but never came found the time. This tag is created with Canvas Corp Brands product and after the 12 tags of 2015 – December tutorial by Tim Holtz. Here is what I did:

Sanna Lippert1. I took piece of Canvas Corp canvas and placed a The Crafter´s Workshop stencil over the surface. I used washi tape to adhere the stencil on it´s place. Sanna Lippert2. Next I sprayed some Baseboard Mist Paint (Gerber) spray ink over the canvas piece. Sanna Lippert3. I always use the residue ink too, by pressing a watercolor paper over the damp surface. That way I get a second image – it might come handy for a journal or another mixed media project later.  Sanna Lippert4. This is how the misted canvas looks like. Sanna Lippert5. My tag is not very chrismassy, as I used hydrangea petals (punch by Martha Stewart) for the wreath. Here I punched them from a piece of ivory cardstock (also by Canvas Corp Brands.) Sanna Lippert6. I then placed the petal over a dry baby wipe and misted them with Kiwi spray ink (by Tattered Angels – also a Canvas Corp Brand). Sanna Lippert7. Next I adhered the canvas and the wreath pieces on to a tag. I used a piece of golden yarn as a “wreath base”, adhering the green petals along it. Then I added a few silver rhinestones on top of the petals for additional interest. A green ribbon from my stash went on top. Sanna Lippert8. I used some Tim Holtz rub-ons on ivory cardstock, then misted the with Boardwalk Glimmer Mist over the area to create a grayish background. Sanna Lippert9. I cut the sentiments onto banners and adhered them onto the tag. Then I added some grey Glimmer Glaze splatters onto the background. A little Prima pebble also found it´s way onto the tag. Sanna Lippert10. Finally, some white platters had to be added too. I used the Liquitex Titanium White Ink for this purpose. Sanna LippertIn the end I resized the tag abit as I didn´t like the grey tone on top. Notice that I even did the sewing, like on Tim´s tag. And I am definitely really bad in sewing :-).  Sanna LippertThis is the finished tag – and some close-ups to follow too. Really enjoyed making this!!! Sanna Lippert Sanna Lippert Sanna Lippert Sanna Lippert This tag has been touring with the Canvas Corp booth since CHA 2016. I´m kinda jelous of it, it get´s to see so many fairs I cannot attend 😉 …

See the beauty – Canvas Corp Brands

Hello there lovelies!!! I was really happy to hear that Canvas Corp Brands wanted to keep me in their team for another year. I am really enjoying being part of the team – what an  inspiring and fun bunch of people they are!!! Here´s to old and new DT colleagues and fun creative times with them!!!

Remember last year when I created this 4×4 inch canvas for the DT introduction? Well, I thought it might be time to create another one for 2016 ( I know I´m a bit late with posting this 4×4, but better late than never, eh?). Last year was all about pink, this year I went a shade darker. It´s purple I felt drawn towards to! I know a few of my scrappy friends will raise an eyebrow or two after reading my color choice..lol! BUT, it felt good to go purple this year. So I did!

Here are the materials I used for my canvas:

Sanna LippertThe canvas is a actually a canvas board in 4×4 inch size, as I didn´t happen to have a “real” canvas in that size at home. I might actually consider framing the canvas board behind a shadow frame before hanging it onty my wall.

About the materials: I used one piece of the Archival Cast Figureheads, 2 silver feathers, silver yarn, Frantage Glitter Mix, Micro Beads, various shared of purple spray ink ( Glimmer Mist Tea Cup, Glimmer Mist Cranberry Zing, Glimmer Mist Black Cherry & Plain Jane Baseboard Iris) a black pen, Gesso and Texture paste. There is also a chipboard piece from my very old stash and a hand made clay rose. And that´s pretty much it. I did a couple of layers of misting and gessoing before I was satisfied with the result. Here is what I ended up with:

Sanna Lippert Sanna Lippert Sanna Lippert Sanna Lippert Sanna Lippert Sanna Lippert Sanna LippertSo this year I am going for color. I´ve figured I might as well accept the fact that I am (at least at the moment) a color girl. I adore the soft and white layouts, when other crafty peeps create them (just look at my fave layouts at Pinterest, and you see what I mean) BUT I cannot create such. I end up using bold colors. So bold & colors it be for 2016!

Here ´s to another creative year with Canvas Corp Brands! I am very much enjoying being part of this team! Make sure you stop by the CCB blog on regular basis, so much inspiration and beautiful artwork is being shared over there by my lovely DT colleagues!!!

Happy creating!!
