Pop-up cards challenge – Elizabeth Craft Designs

Hello there, everybody and welcome to yet another Die Cut Design Team Challenge with  Elizabeth Craft Designs. This months challenge theme is “pop-up cards”. Now this truly is  a challenge for me, as I am not very familiar with creating such cards. BUT there are fabulous dies available at the Elizabeth Craft Designs store that make creating such cards very easy even for untrained cardmakers. Here is my take for the challenge:

First I took a piece of green patterned paper from my older paper stash to create a base for the pop-up pieces. I then placed the paper into my die cutting machine and cut three different sized pop-up parts onto the background paper.
Next I stamped some Krista Schneider ice bears, tree and stars on white cardstock, die cut them with the matching die cut die set and then colored them with watersoluble coloured pencils by Caran d´Ache. Now I´m definitely not  very experienced in coloring images, but I found the watersoluble pencils quite easy to use with a water tank brush. And it´s like with everything else, if you don´t start, you will not develop. I have been avoiding coloring all the time, since I find it hard to get the shadows and toning right, but then I figured if I keep on trying I might be able to create reasonable looking images after all. And I must admit, that these cute bears were really fun to color.
I´ve added some Stickles glitter glue details here and there on the trees and the bears. A Christmas themed card can always have some glitter on it in my opinion :).  After finishing the images I just needed to adhere them on their places – some onto the pop-up parts and some directly onto the card background. This creates a scenery like feel to the card. In the end I then added a stamped sentiment inside the card. It is a clear stamp set by Krista Schneider and works well with the beary images :).

After creating the inside of the card, I added some finishing touches to the front. I simply adhered a similar toned piece of paper onto the front and fussy cut a pre-printed sentiment to go with it. Then I added some colored and die cut images to accompany the sentiment and decorated everything with glitter glue (Stickles).
That is my pop-up card for this challenge and I must say I had a good time coloring and am quite happy with the results. I still need some practise, but I think I have found my favorite coloring pens to practise with :). I´ll leave you off with a second card that I created as a side product – using all the residue pieces from my first card project.
I just added the star onto the front to decorate the patterned paper and added some twinckle to the background with Stickles. On the inside there is a stamped sentiment from the Krista Schneider Holiday Cheer stamp set.

Now hop over to the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog to see what everyone else created and leave a comment to be in for the prize draw!! Good luck and happy crafting,

xxx, Sanna
