Hello everyone and happy August!!! Since it is the beginning of a new month again, it is also time to share the new Mixed Media August Card Challenge with you. Here it is:

This month´s challenge is to use BUTTERFLIES. Now we all like to use butterflies, don´t we, so I am guessing that there will be quite a few submissions this month. And the optional element this time is gold. So add a hint of gold to your project to make it extra classy and special!!!

And here is a little step-by-step on how I created the card:

I first rubbed three tones of Gelatos onto a white piece of paper, then added some water and by using my finger, mixed the water with the Gelato treated area together. It created a watercolor kind of effect on the background.

Next I applied some purple ink splatters from a spray ink bottle to give the background a more interesting look.

After that I used the The Crafter´s Workshop stencil to apply some metallic texture paste (gold) over the Gelato treated areas. I let the paste air dry and while it was drying, I started with my butterflies.

I first stamped the butterfly image onto the same piece of white paper with VersaMark embossing powder, then poured some Sticky Embossing Powder (by Ranger) over the stamped image, heat set it and quickly added a piece of gold foil over the embossed area and rubbed the foil with my finger onto the surface. That created a lovely golden butterfly which I then “colored” with green and yellow spray ink tones. After the ink was dry, I fussy cut the butterflies and glued them down onto the card over a piece of golden yarn. I also added some blue faux stitching around the edges and finally dabbed some black Glimmer Glaze here and there for additional detail. The sentiment is stamped with a black ink.

I used blue cardstock as my card base to add more contrast between the card background and the card base.
