Die cut candle Christmas card

Hello everybody! Like I already told you, this year I am taking an „early start“ to creating Christmas cards and what better way to make some than to grab the brand new Elizabeth Craft Designs Christmas themed dies and create with those!

Here is what I did:

I started by taking a piece of old book paper and inking the edges with Iced Spruce Disterss Oxide ink. I love the tone of this ink!

Next I die cut the base of the candle from Misty Mauve Soft Finish Cardstock, then took a piece of Pale Peach Soft Finish Cardstock and die cut the second candle layer from that one. The branches are die cut with the same die, but I used a relatively old green paper from my own stash.

This kind of projects are perfect for sneaking in papers that I´d probably otherwise not anymore. But here this green paper works really well. I then die cut the bow from Thru The Lens – Wood paper. It was one with some dark red wood pattern on it and I found that it worked really well together with the branches. So you see the papers you use for Xmas cards do not necessarily have to be from a Christmas themed pack, if you don´t happen to have any. You can as well make other papers work too :)!

I covered the back of the papers with Clear Double Sided Adhesive before die cutting, this way it´s very easy to adhere the pieces on their places and there is no mess with a paper glue. I am normally a paper glue user, so that being said, I am slowly noticing the practicality of other adhesives here too :). For this type of projects, with tiny, detailed pieces it is really great to have the option of using double sided adhesive sheets you can die cut with the paper!

After I had all pieces die cut, I simply needed to adhere them to their places, build the bow and layer the branches and the flames etc. on top of each other/next to each other. See how I also used the negative swirl pieces from the candle between the branches? I didn´t want to throw them away so I figured they´d make for a nice decorational detail in between the green twigs.

Finally I added some rose gold Stickles and red Liquid Pearls here and there for additional detail and dimention. I even added a stamped sentiment (with black ink) inside the card using the Joset Designs Winter Sentiments clear stamp set. So when you flip the card open it says: „It´s the most wonderful time of the year“ inside it.

I hope you enjoyed this little Christmas card idea and get inspired to try this die cut die for your Christmas card projects.

Happy crafting,
xxx, Sanna
