Hello lovelies, it is time for another Stencil Sunday and this time I´m sharing a fun and easy to make stenciled canvas bag.
This is what my finished canvas bag looks like:
And this is how I created it:
First gather the materials together. You will need a canvas/fabric zipper bag, a foam brush, a stencil and some paints. I picked two colours and chose to use the green one, since this tone of green is one of the Pantone colors for 2017.
The steps are really easy. Place the stencil onto the canvas bag – if the fabric is thinner, you might want to place a cardboard piece inside the bag to keep the paint from seeping thru the surface all the way to the backside of the bag. I didn´t have to, as the canvas this piece is made of, is quite thick material. Next make sure you keep the bag steadily on one place – I kept it from moving around simply with my fingers. You can wash your hands afterwards :). Then apply some paint onto a painters tray and dab the color onto the surface with the foam brush. If you are uncertain, practise on a piece of fabric first. The trick is to keep the stencil from moving around to get an even image. There are no other tricks to getting a clean image than that. When you are done, carefully remove the stencil. Rinse both the stencil and the foam brush and let the surface dry.
Next I applied some texture spray splattrers onto the bag and let those dry. I just wanted to add an artistic element to the surface. If you don´t like splatters, you don´t have to make any :).
Finally I outlined the stenciled sentiment with a black pen to add a little more contrast. That´s it. Easy and fast to do. The paint I used is not meant for fabric which means that I cannot wash this piece in a washing machine. But there are also paints out in the market meant for fabrics. If you want a permanent result, use such paints. My bag is going to be in my studio and I will store my paint pens inside it, so I didn´t need the result to be permanent.
Imagine using another of the great sentiment stencils at the STAMPlorations store with another color – the result will be totally different! You can also use this technique for art pieces, wall hangings etc. Paint, stencils and fabric work really well together. Hope you get inspired!!!
